With the Linksys router it is not possible. You will need to connect the cable between the two routers. Linksys router will not pick up the wireless signal from the other wireless router.
May be it will work If you upgrade the DD-WRT Firmware. Not sure but it may. consult with the DD-WRT expert before upgrading the firmware.

Connect the router to a UPS to prevent temporary loss of power issues. Any electronics store will carry a UPS that won't cost you a lot.

Whats the problem? Isnt your laptop working now.

looking at this site http://www.linksysbycisco.com/AE/en/support/WAG54GX2/download there is only 1 version of hardware for that device and no firmware released yet
What exactly are you after - the firmware ?

Access http://Support.LINKSYS.com and download the documentation for your particular device, as a PDF file. Use Adobe Reader to view the PDF file.

Is it wired or wireless ?
If it is wired then check the connection between the router and the computer. If it is connected properly then check the IP address on the computer. Make sure that there is no static IP address on the computer.
If it is wireless then make sure that it is connected to the wireless network. If it is not connected then you will need to connect to the wireless network. IF you are not sure about the wireless settings then you will need to open the set up page of the router and check the settings.

Looking at the base with antennas at the top there is a reset button bottom left that you can press the something sharp like a pencil, hold this button in for at least 5 seconds to reset the router.

Try hard resetting it first.

If you have reset (power off then on) your router and still a problem, the problem lies with your router or your computer.

If your computer can see and connect to other wireless networks, such as at an Internet cafe, or other wireless networks, your router is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If your computer cannot connect to other wireless networks, your computer network card is problematic.

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
check the IP address on that computer.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.

Hard reset properly for 30 secs. & Powercycle and try again.

the huges modem plugs into the router. there should be a network cable plug that is seperate from the others on the back of the router. should say line or lan.

If that don't work you have to hit the reset button to restore back to factory settings.

this is the easyiest way.
click connect to(or the connection buttotn)>>connect to the router/internet accesspoint>>after getting connected right click on the connection>>
status>>properties>>networking>>(double click)internet protocol version( u will see two of them do both of them one after one)>>check obtain ip address automaticaly(both)>>check obtain dns address automatically(both).

You do not need the drivers for this router to get it worked with your computer. You can simply set it up after you will login to the router page.

You need to connect your computer to the router and than router to your modem, and than you will get an ipaddress with default gateway on your computer from router and once you will click on save settings on the main router page, you will be all set and good to go.

I believe you are using WINDOWS XP.
In case of windows XP, there might be 2 different wireless utilities can control your wireless adapter.
First utility is the manufacturer's utility. If you have Dell wireless adapter then you can use Dell utility to connect to the network.
Another utility is Window's utility. You are getting the error message in this utility because your computer is using another utility.
To use window's utility you will need to start the " wireless zero configuration ".
