Cannot see how to remove the chain bar

remove the two nuts on the cover and loosen the screw at the base of the bar on the engine. This tightens and loosens the bar. But makes it easier to remove the bar. Pull the bar out away from the engine and then toward the round thing where the chain is around the slip the chain off of the bar and engine and pull the bar off.

Looking at buying a Husqvarna 55 Special pro. The

Ask to see the sales receipt if you are in need of proof of purchase date. Even contacting Husqvarna to ask when it was registered may not be the actual purchase date. I saw a question not long ago about a saw that was purchased new that had been out of production for a couple of years. It is possible it sat on a dealer's shelf for a period.

Looking at the serial, it was manufactured in 1998, the 51st week (Dec), and was the 4th product that week.

Enter the 3 digit model number (no XPs, Es, just the numbers)
Serial number decode – useful when downloading IPLs and Manuals
06 1500198
06 = year produced – 2006 (single digit year please contact Husqvarna for clarification)
15 = week produced – March
00198 = 198th unit Husky produced that week

How do I "reset" the brake?

If the chain brake is on and the sprocket cover is off the saw, they are a pain. You need to grip the clutch housing while turning backwards the tri-star \'cog\' in the inside of the sprocket cover. Ive done it in the past by holding it in place over the chain brake handle so the cog\'s line up and pulling the handle back in the off position. Failing that you might be successful using a pair of 90 degree circlip pliers.

My 450 Husky has a leak from the oil tank at the bottom of the saw. Is there an oil plug at the bottom of the tank that come loose or unscrewed??????

if same as mine there is a screw under side to stop oil flow altogether for storage or to slow down if excessive flow but remember to open if using so the chain doesn`t burn out to soon

Husqvarna chainsaw 450 oil leak

The 450 has a very simple non adjustable pump, it sits through a black rubber pick up/delivery pipe, they are quite prone to leaking where the pipe sits up against the crankcase, the part no. of the pipe is 544084201, changing this will help, you can also try using instant gasket to seal it, you will need to remove the clutch , sprocket, and pump plate to get acsess to it.

I have a 450 X torq and it runs at high speed and wont idle down dealer told me it wasnt in the adjustment that is probably a seal on the crank. Has anyone had this problem

The dealer could well be correct, if a two stroke engine has an air leak through a seal or gasket, it will draw air through here and not through the carb, this in turn will weaken off the mixture and cause high running at idle, there are other reasons, like the throttle flap is not closing properley, or the throttle cable is not correctly seated, remove the top cover and turn the throttle shaft manually to the idle position.

if it is hard to start and smokes sounds like the fuel is to old and the oil to gas mixture is wrong start off with some fresh fuel gas is only good for 30days in small engines

Electrical wire?

Because of the simplicity of the ignition system, there really is no diagram necessary. Husqvarna uses a simple two-wire harness in that unit (e.g., p/n 544 08 28-01) that has two female quick-connects at one end and one female quick-connect and a ring terminal at the other end.The end with the ring connector is the magneto end. The female quick-connect there attaches to the magneto primary circuit control terminal, and the ring terminal there is secured under the head of one of the two magneto armature mounting screws. The opposite end of the harness goes to the ON/OFF switch on the case side near the handle. This switch is a simple single-pole/single-throw switch that allows the engine to run when in its open position, and kills the engine when in its closed position. The engine shut-down occurs through the effective action of grounding the magneto control terminal to the magneto armature frame, as accomplished through the circuit through the ON/OFF switch when that switch is closed. To identify the armature, harness and switch for your saw, go to the Husqvarna Manuals Download Page for your saw, identify the list by the build date of your saw, and download the desired list. (I like the 2009-02 version as it has the sections identified and bookmarked, but be sure you ID the correct parts for your saw. It might help to DL your manual as well as the 2009-02 version for reference purposes.)The armature and harness will be found on the Ignition / Flywheel page (items 7 & 8, respectively), and the switch will be found on the Air Filter / Intake / Carb and Air Purge / On-Off Switch pages, as item 9 (e.g., p/n 504 00 34-01, includes retainer bail). If you are getting no spark from the plug wire when cranking the engine with the ON/OFF switch in its ON position, the problem must be in one of three places -- the magneto or its mounting, the harness, or the switch. A short between the magneto control terminal and the magneto armature will kill the spark, as will any short between the two wires in the harness. Similarly, an ON/OFF switch that fails to open (internally) will have the same effect as leaving the switch set to its OFF position. If the engine will not stop when the ON/OFF switch is moved to its OFF position, an open magneto circuit is indicated. This can be due to a broken wire in the harness, a loose or corroded connection of the grounding (control) wire to the armature frame, a break in the magneto primary circuit to the control terminal, a loose or disconnected wire at the ON/OFF switch, or an ON/OFF switch that fails to close (internally). While broken or shorted harness wires are easily repaired without replacement, any magneto or switch failures will usually require replacement of the failed component.
