Husqvarna 450 e-series 18" Chain Saw - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My Husqvarna 450 won't idledown when warmed up
Verify carburetor linkage and throttle shaft are not sticking (remove linkage as a test). The intake and carb assembly are several components. There can be no air leaks at any point downstream of the throttle plate. Check mounting screws are properly torqued. Could also be crankcase leak. Check fuel tank is not building pressure (remove/loosen fuel cap as a test).
Take cylinder head off
450 does not have a cylinder head. The cylinder assembly is one piece. The cylinder assembly is connected by 4 bolts installed from the bottom of the saw.
Primer ball will not take gas
Check to see if the primer is split or leaking. Then check your fuel filter and fuel lines. If all are clear and no leaks, the only other issue would be carburetor or lines installed incorrectly.
Wiring for 460 husqvarna
There is not much wiring on the 460. The coil has the lead to the sparkplug, then there is the ground (kill) wire running to the switch and grounded to the engine.
Not pumping oil
check oil pump, oil pump drive gear, and rubber oil guide tube isnt blocked
Cannot see how to remove the chain bar
remove the two nuts on the cover and loosen the screw at the base of the bar on the engine. This tightens and loosens the bar. But makes it easier to remove the bar. Pull the bar out away from the engine and then toward the round thing where the chain is around the slip the chain off of the bar and engine and pull the bar off.
Looking at buying a Husqvarna 55 Special pro. The
Ask to see the sales receipt if you are in need of proof of purchase date. Even contacting Husqvarna to ask when it was registered may not be the actual purchase date. I saw a question not long ago about a saw that was purchased new that had been out of production for a couple of years. It is possible it sat on a dealer's shelf for a period.
Looking at the serial, it was manufactured in 1998, the 51st week (Dec), and was the 4th product that week.

How do I "reset" the brake?
If the chain brake is on and the sprocket cover is off the saw, they are a pain. You need to grip the clutch housing while turning backwards the tri-star \'cog\' in the inside of the sprocket cover. Ive done it in the past by holding it in place over the chain brake handle so the cog\'s line up and pulling the handle back in the off position. Failing that you might be successful using a pair of 90 degree circlip pliers.
