Hello my 1997 s10 isn't getting gas I can hear the fuel pump run.and I put gas in the carb and it will run until the gas runs out then it quits.Any ideas

Is this a carbed engine, that usually means mechanical fuel pump? Take fuel line loose from carb, aim into container, crank engine, does gas flow? If so, have to check float bowl in carb to see if any gas, if no gas, need a carb kit in my opinion.
I don't know liter size of engine? If fuel injected, let us know.

Your truck is fuel injected, so no carburetor is used.
Have you checked base fuel pressure with a gauge, and do you know for sure that the injectors are opening ?

I had a 1997 s10 4*4 with the 2.8 v6.
mine do that I had to pull the gas tank replace fuel filter plus had to take undo the line from the intake and blow air thru it. Make sure all u're filter are replaced and y u have the tank down replace the fuel pump. I hope this helps u

the pump is fuel cooled and Lubricated,
running it dry, wrecks the pump. (at the least lost the prime)

this car is no like an old carb car ,where this is ok.

if lucky key on and off 10 times, and hear the pump, it you hear it run.
it may prime. some cars 1/2 the pump is dead until cranked.
so easy to drain a battery priming the pump.

Check fuel pressure and volume. You may here the pump but it may be weak and not putting out enough volume to actually start the car. Putting gas down the throttle body could be dangerous and can actually start a fire.

turn the ignition key to the on position to hear the fuel pump priming. If not heard running replace the engines oil sender switch

sounds like its not holding fuel pressure i would check the fuel pump with fuel pressure guage.

Have your fuel pressure checked.Sounds like pump or relay is out or fuel filter restricted too much.Remove the gas cap and put your ear to filler neck while someone turn's the key on,you should hear the pump running.pump run's for about 8 second's to prime fuel rail then shut's off till cranking.

try running the vehicle without the feul cap and see if it quites or keeps running.

I put a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and a fuel pump relay and the fuel pump is still not coming on. I am not getting any fuel. Can you please tell me what it might be.
