Probably not the column, it is probably the PASSLOCK system. If I remember right, the blazer/ Jimmy were a bit special. If you have a stereo shop close by that installs remote start systems, give them a call.

The reason there are two timing marks on the balancer is because you can line up the top mark with the mark on the timing cover and the bottom mark with the mark on the block. This is top dead center for number 1 cylinder you dont need to crank the motor over with your finger over the no 1 plug hole or watch the valve springs on number one cylinder anymore now they have made it simple just line up the marks and you are at tdc no1 cylinder if you want diagrams email me. Good luck!

One of the Hubs could be staying engaged and that COULD contribute to the transmission overheating as it is constantly straining. GM had am issue at one time with the front axles on their 4X4's. The motor and harness on the axle had to be replaced, but I am not sure of the exact years of these vehicles. But sounds like a fluid issue, TOO MUCH, WRONG TYPE, OVERHEATING.

if it is a 4.3 v-6 with multiport injection ,it may be the spider unit. try putting gas into the throttle body and see if it starts. if it does than replace the fuel injection unit (spider unit)

Had an issue similar to this with a customer astro van. It was the front differential that destroyed itself. We took the front driveshaft off and he drove it like that for a while. Then sold it. So, I am not sure what happened inside that front axle, but is was locked up. As long as we took off the driveshaft, the spider gears were the only thing spinning internally. So it could be driven again.

Do you know what a splice in a wiring harness is ? Looking at a wiring diagram for the heater / A/C controller . I see S221 ,may have a break in the wire right there . Look here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model , an engine size . Under system click on HVAC , then under subsystem click on HVAC control's ,then click the search button ,then the first blue link . Scroll down to the thrid diagram. If you had factory service info. you could find the location of that splice .

There is probably a safety interlock with the brake pedal so in order to move from park the ignition must be switched on and the footbrake applied.

I suggest you read the section in the vehicle handbook and if there is such an interlock and it isn't working check the brake pedal switch function and adjustment first.

Catalytic converter could possibly be clogged. Are you getting any sulfer smell? especially when going up hills. Also if this is a vortec motor ( says VORTEC across the top of engine) they were famous for have the injector module leak in the intake.
