My 2000 crown Victoria lx makes a very loud noise when starting up sometimes or on the road. I had the air filter changed because I was told It was coming from the air filter not on tight but it still does it with the new filter and it has been checked out . No one knows unless they can hear the noise which seems impossible. It does not last long enough to get it to a garage. only has 58,000 miles on it.

i have a 2001 crown victoria was driving down hwy car made loud noise and shut off had it towed home got it started and has NO power almost couldnt get i in drive way, had been making a slite noise before that and bucking for about 4 months in the last 3 weeks noise was getting louder. Was told could be timing chain how likely is this and how do i check it.
If the noise is like a loud hoot or a wounded moose and you have a 4.6L engine then you need to update the iac intake tube. Ford basic part # 9H308. The turbulence that this tube creates makes you Idle air control resonate resulting in a hoot noise.
