My footup and footdown button is stuck and I keep getting an E1 error on the screen. Do I need to take it in for repair or is there something I can do to fix it? Machine will not sew because of the error message will not go away.

The E1 Error code appears when the needle bar is up and the sewing machine can't prepare the zigzag motor to start. Unplug the sewing machine and check the wiring connections on the zigzag motor and circuit board A. Replace the fuse on circuit board A if the fuse is blown. Replace circuit board A if it has a burned spot. Replace the zigzag motor if the fuse blows and circuit board A is okay. Possible parts

If possible, I would recommend giving Elna a call at +41 22 884 86 66 and seeing if their tech support can walk you through any checks with the machine. I took a look at the manual and see the solution you reference, and it certainly isn't much help is it? Does your LCD only display E1 error, or are there other details displayed?

E1 means that your machine thinks the thread has broken.

There's nothing you can do to fix this: it has to go to an authorised Singer Service Centre for diagnosis and repair. Usually it's a faulty thread sensor.

Error code E1:Make sure the presser foot is lowered before sewing.

In order to get this error the foot controller has to be pressed (or the start/stop button was pressed if the foot controller is not connected), and the reverse/reinforcement stitch button needs to be pressed while the presser foot was raised.

The only solution offer by Brother is to lower the presser foot lever before continuing.

This seems a bit simplistic so assuming you tried that already
Check to make sure there is no tangled thread interfering with the take-up lever.

This seems to be a common problem and it may be related to a computer issue rather then a mechanical fault.

In this case you may need to have the machine serviced.
