By manual I guess you mean the buttons on the TV and not switching the actual cables. my recommendation is to get a good new universal remote. My personal preference for my Vizio TV is the Logitech 650. Just know that you program it on a computer. It controls up to 6 devices (TV, DVD, Cable box, audio and more), is easy to program with no codes to enter. I am sure it is easier to get then a new Vizio remote though a little pricey at $60.

Ah, the old universal remote isn't so universal anymore is it? Most "universal" remote controls were designed for the old tube type television sets. There are some seriously nice universal remotes for new flat screen TV's, but most of them are pretty pricey. The only reasonable flat screen universal remote that I've found (that actually works) is the Vizio HDTV Universal Remote. It's about $25, and believe it or not ... Wal-Mart carries it in the store.

Sounds like main board issues

Press Info/ Display button on tv remote once, on-screen display will disappear.
Only Sony tv remote will work for that, no other universal remote will close on-screen display.

Tries unplug,replug the tv an hour later might work.But this a temp.fix,must replaced the backlight video board sooner or later.

Contact a Sony repair depot, give them the model number of your TV, and they should be able to order you a replacement. You can also purchase a Universal Remote. You want to make sure that it will control your TV. A lot of the Universal Remotes won't give you complete control of your TV so choose carefully if you must buy one.
