For every format (MP4 is not one, but dozens of formats and no standard) you need a player, or on a computer a setting in a program. A DVD player, only can play one format, a DVD format. Actually it is even a coded format. When you have a MP4 file, you should encode it to to the DVD format and then but it to a DVD, before you try to play it in a DVD player. Try reading some articles about video formats on Wikipedia, when it is interesting enough for you to understand different Video (and Audio) formats.

This is a pretty old set (2006) and you can get a much better TV (brighter, higher resolution) now for less than it would cost you to have someone fix it. If you want to open it up yourself, look for something that is causing it to overheat - air vents blocked by dust or an inoperable fan. Short of that, look for the next e-waste collection.

The power trip off means that the main board has a short and so there is a high current drain which triggers the protect circuit to work and switch off.
So to trace it requires that the different driver sections be checked for possible high drain or heating. Check for dy points soldering.

I had a similar problem with my Denon. First check inside the unit to see if a disc is loose somewhere inside. This is a common problem with these multi disc units, especially if you have moved it. The bad news is that they should not be moved at all without locking the tray from the rear as small plastic gears can break. You may have to take it to a sony repair shop if the suggestions don't work. Be sure to follow the moving instructions and good luck.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, [Exclude the model number] in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.
