You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model motherboard and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers: -

By the way, you should install Windows XP SP3 this is the latest service pack.

try doing a microsoft update in custom mode and see if any hardware drivers are found, you may get lucky and it will do it for you, otherwise you need to find out what kind of sound card you have and then go to the manufacturers webpage and download their drivers and install them.

the drivers which u downloaded maybe correct but hte problem may be that u did not install the chipset driver first

You can find all the drivers you need from HP's Download page for the DX6120 Micro Tower. I would guess the drivers you need are the chipset drivers, which can be found on the following pages (There are links to all the available drivers for that model #)

Windows XP Home

Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit

Windows Vista Business 32bit

Please note that Vista pages do not have chipset drivers, as Vista should be able to install them on it's own.
