If you're lucky, you may only resolder the power plug onto the motherboard and that's it. This is a known problem with this and many other laptop models, like the Toshiba m35. Unfortunately, NC6xxx series suffer from yet another power-related issue: the Maxim chip problem, and the solution is performing a redistributive resolder. For more info take a look at this post for power plug and Maxim 1987/ Max1532 chip resolder instructions http://ebooksandtutorials.com/toshiba-m35-hp-nc6000-laptop-repair-manual

Try this:
Unplug the charger from the unit (but leave it plugged into the wall outlet) and remove the battery. Push the power button and hold it down as you plug in the charger. You may have heard of soft boots and hard boots...this is like a super hard boot. If it starts up, you can reinstall the battery. Good luck.

I have emachine ET 1641-02w check the power supply and its check out ok but computer wont turn on

I will assume that you have not messed with anything and it just stopped working. So try these steps:

1) Check the power plug, make sure it is plugged into the wall and also into the back of the computer.

2) Check to see that the switch is "On" on the back of the power supply if there is one.

3) Take the case off and look at the power button, try to press it without the case on, perhaps the power button is broken. If that doesnt work try and see if the little wires on the back of the power button are connect and bot pushed off.

4) Check the cables to the power supply, ensure they are connected to the motherboard and not disconnnected.

5) If all of the above do not work, take a power supply from another system and plug it in to *********** board, see if the computer boots normaly then. If that works you can assume the power supply is shot.

Let me know if there is anything else.

I have a Vostro 1700 laptop. Normally i would press the start button the laptop to start up the computer, but recently, when i put the power switch on on my plug socket on the wall the computer just starts...

- buttons, especially the power button could be grounded. This needs replacement and repair. You will need to contact the manufacturer for support if warranty is still active. A technician needs to be there to replace some parts

- The reason why the computer went straight to diagnostic mode is because the power button could be grounded since it's turning on automatically when plugged and when the power was disconnected the system shuts down unexpectedly. Turning on a computer that experienced unexpected power loss may result to running in diagnostic mode

- You might as well check the battery.

Acer 5570 - Power switch is not working

Hi,
Try removing the power supply (from the wall) and the battery pack. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Plug the mains power (from the wall) back in and then press the power button. It should work. Then you can replace your battery pack. Don't know why it works but it has worked for me in the past. Good luck!

Larry,

  1. Unplug the laptop and remove the battery.
  2. Press the power button down and hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
  3. Press the power button 5 more times quickly.
  4. Plug the power back into the laptop without the battery and press the power button.
If the laptop powers on just put the battery back in.

I cannot switch on my Acer travelmate 283XC. The battery went flat and I have now plugged it in the wall but when I press the power button nothing happens...

Try this; Disconnect from the AC outlet rmove the dc plug from the jack. Remove the Battery and wait for 5 mins and plug in the AC? DC adaptor without the battery. If the Laptop runs, then wait for the Windows to totally boot up and while running try to put back the battery and observe if it still charges. If not then try to replace the battery with a new one.

hope this helps.
