    glass top stove / oven

  • Anonymous Oct 22, 2010

That site is no help for repairing your own oven. Thats a general Care manual.
I need to know how to take the unit apart and replace the switch.
The oven model is JSP40A0W3AA and the switch i am replacing is a GE 1500w switch for the small burner - part # WB23M24.

Yes, that is the part. I used that diagram when ordering the part. What i need is detailed instructions on removing and replacing it correctly.

I will give you this generic guide that you can follow to replace that switch;

1. Before repairs can begin, you must disconnect the electricity at the fuse panel, at the circuit breaker panel, or by pulling the plug. Make sure the power is off before proceeding. A jolt from 220 volts can be fatal, use caution!.
2. Next, depending on your appliance type/model, access the infinite switch using one of the following methods:
a. For most standard models, remove the back panel.
b. On models with front-mounted controls, the panel is attached with screws on both ends. Remove the screws and tilt the control panel, being careful not to let the wires disengage from the components.
c. For models with a removable backsplash, simply lift the backsplash, rest it on the cooktop and remove the screws to access the components.
d. If you are working on an eye-level range or wall oven, remove the control panel by opening the door and removing the screws that secure it. The screws may be located under the front of the exhaust hood or below the control panel. If the control panel is hinged, tilt the control panel towards you.
e. Some models will require that you remove the rear panel and front panel before work can begin.
f. If the front control panel is glass, remove the screws securing the trim that holds the glass in place.

Remove all wires from the switch terminals. (Remember to label them!)
Remove the infinite switch by removing the screws or nuts that hold it in place and install a new infinite switch by following the disassembly instructions above in reverse order.

Sam

The item you are replacing is the Element Control 3000w shown on this diagram as part of item 19.
It should be looking like this. Normally the part should have come with some instructions. The item is one of the items in 19 and you will have to open it.

But this should give you an idea of where it sits.

Hope this helps.

Picture diagram of GE 4 burner wiring instructions

I can provide you with some general instructions on how to wire a 4 burner stove.
First, ensure that the stove is disconnected from any power source.
Identify the four burners and their respective control knobs. Each burner should have a set of wires connected to it.
Remove the control panel cover by unscrewing any screws or bolts that hold it in place.
Identify the wiring connections for each burner. The wiring should be color-coded, with one wire usually being black and the other white or red.
Disconnect the old wiring connections by unscrewing any screws that hold them in place. Be sure to keep track of which wires go where.
Connect the new wiring to the burner by attaching the black wire to the burner's terminal labeled "L1" and the white or red wire to the burner's terminal labeled "L2."
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each burner.
Replace the control panel cover and secure it with any screws or bolts.
Reconnect the stove to the power source and test each burner to ensure that it is working properly.
It's important to note that these are general instructions, and the specific wiring diagram for your GE 4 burner stove may vary depending on the model and year. If you're unsure about the wiring or feel uncomfortable working with electricity, it's always best to consult a professional electrician or appliance repair technician.

Cooktop burner doesn't switch between small and large

The burners are controlled by switches, that are the one you turn when you turn the knob. Iwf the burner does not switch to high mode than you need to change the switch.
The switch for your appliance has part number:
WB21X5243
You can by the part from manufacturer clicking here.

Here is an exploded view of your kitchen panel.

3ed4568.jpg

The switch is indicated with number 3 in the picture, There should be at least ttwo of them, depending on the model. That is what you need to replace.
Its price is $40.50 from GE.

You will have to replace the switch which controls that burner. The electrical contacts inside the switch have welded themselves together. Note: Many replacement switches do not look exactly like the original, but instructions are generally included with the new switch.

One of your burner switches is stuck in the ON position. On older models the switch itself can be replaced. On newer models the whole bunch need to be replaced. c2c8a4f.jpg

Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

Natural gas orifice burners

Before you get too involved, check to see if the natural gas orifices are still with the range. Usually, when the conversion is done, the person who converts the range puts the original natural gas orifices into the holder which contained the LP ones, then replaces it. Look for an inch and a half long metal strip holding the four brass orifices held on by one screw very near the range gas regulator. (the regulator is the part the gas line connects to on the range) Also, look for the conversion instructions in the original installation and set up instructions, or attached to a sheet of paper on the back of the range. You will need to change the plunger in the regulator (Unscrew the cap, flip the plunger around, and replace) and turn the orifice spud on the bake and broiler burners three full turns counter-clockwise also. (using a 1/2 inch open end wrench, counting twelve 1/4 turns) Orifices will require a 7mm or 9/32 inch nut driver or socket to change. The orifices are different for the simmer, regular, and high output burners. (have a "I", "II" and "III" marked on them to help identify them, respectively.) The left two burners are both "regular output" burners, and use the same orifices.

Red light on cook top remains on always.

Don't really need a wiring diagram, although there may be one inside switch area. (make sure to put it back again if it is there) Will need the full model number to get you the part number you need. (model number usually on a sticker near where the electrical wire enters the cook top)
Turn off power to cook top. Open cover to switches. Pull two "pilot" (usually smaller spade terminals) off the switch for the right front burner, and insulate each with a bit of electrical tape. Turn power back on to see if light now off. If yes, replace that switch. If no, replace those wires and repeat procedure with the next switch until you find the bad switch.
