Memory Card light is flashing. Cannot get power to tun on printer by pressing the on button. Have unplugged power cord to restart printer. It comes on briefly but shuts off after intial restart.

To repair follow the steps below 1: Unplug Power Cord 2: Hold POWER and RESUME buttons 3: Plug in Power Cord 4: Release buttons after the printers starts up 5: Hold CARTRIDGE and RESUME 6: Press POWER 7: Release all buttons after the beeps 8: Press CARTRIDGE 16 times 9: Press RESUME 10: Unplug the Power cord
If you find the lights flashing, we could try resetting the printer.I have explained the reset procedures below
POWER DRAIN:-Turn off the printer, Unplug the power cable from printer and from the wall outlet.Press and hold ON buton for 30-60 seconds.
PARTIAL RESET:-Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold # and 3 button and connect the Power cord while holding.Wait untill the ON light flashes, then release the buttons.

SEMI_FULL RESET:-Remove the ink cartridges, Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold # and 6 button and connect the Power cord while holding.Wait untill the ON light flashes,or wait for 20 seconds,hen release the button.If the printer goes off dont worry release the button and Push the ON button.
FULL NVM RESET:-Take the Ink Cartridges out, Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold OK and CANCEL button and connect the Power cord while holding the buttons.keep Holding the buttons until the printer goes off ,release the button and Push the ON button.

Power, Resume, and Print Cartridge Status lights are flashing in unison
The printer might need to be restarted.
Press the Power button to turn off the printer, and then press the Power button to restart the printer. Proceed to Step 2 if the lights continue to flash.
Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
Disconnect the printer power cord from the electrical outlet.
Reconnect the printer power cord to the electrical outlet.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer.

2. While pressing the ON button, plug the power cord back in.
The power light should flash an orange/yellow color.
Continue pressing the ON button, and press the RESUME button 4 times. The light changes every time you press it.
3. Release both buttons, and restart the printer.
The printer should now stop blinking and operate as usual.

if the scanner bulb is not moving, then its an hardware problem. We can try by resetting the printer.

1st step - print a self test report
Press and hold the OK button. Then press the left arrow key one time.
Release the OK button.

Press the OK and Help keys simultaneously.

2nd step - reset the printer
If the printer is not off, press the Power button to turn it off.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
Unplug the universal serial bus (USB) cable from the back of the printer, if connected.
Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back into the printer.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Press the Power button to turn the printer on.
Ensure that the memory card has been removed from the memory card slot.
Make sure plain paper is loaded in the In Tray.
Hold down the OK button and press the Right arrow button four times.
If the test page prints, re-connect the USB cable to the printer.
OR IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DO SO THEN
start - printers & faxes - click on the printer icon highlighted with a correct symbol ( ensure the proper printer is highlighted )- right click on the icon - properties - print test page option at the bottom of the properties screen.
3rd step - if the USB is connected to a USB Hub then disconnect it from the HUB and connect it directly to the wall socket.Make sure the USB cord is of the proper measurement as mentioned for the printer in the User Manual.
4th step - visit www.hp.com
left side of the screen you shall see an option SOFTWARE & DRIVERS DOWNLOAD
click on that
in the next screen a tab comes up mentioning FOR PRODUCT
enter PHOTOSMART D 5160 and hit enter / click on the arrow beside it
choose the OS
under DRIVER YOU HAVE OPTIONS LIKE -
» HP Basic Driver (recommended)
» HP Full Software and Driver (before downloading it uninstall the s/w & then download it )-DO THIS ONLY IF THE 1ST OPTION DOES NOT MAKE THE PRINTER FUNCTION FINE
STILL ERROR PERSISTS : - replace if under warranty/service the printer in the service centre
