If this white spot is always exactly the same, but moves off the picture when you start to digital zoom and not optical zoom, there is probably something on the sensor. You mentioned that when zooming, eventually it moves. Are you in digital zoom mode at that time? (The switchover from optical to digital zoom is automatic, but you can disable it). Is this white spot blurry or sharp? Can you see fringes of the image at the edges? (This would suggest something on the lens).
If there is a piece of dust inside the lens ,you may be able to see it looking down the lens. How big is this spot?
Either way, if the camera is new, can you still return it?

I also can see it just when I have the camera on and I'm looking through the lens (when it's not recording.)
Maybe there is something on the sensor like you said because the size of the spot never gets bigger when I zoom. It stays tiny even when I zoom all the way in and it goes off the side of the screen. It's very tiny, like the size of a pixel maybe. Yes I am always in digital zoom as you asked. It's too tiny to tell if it's blurry or sharp. I don't think it's on the lens; I don't know how to "look down the lens" though. I unfortunately don't have the receipt so I can't send it in to be repaired on warranty. They told me it would cost at least $200 just to send it into the JVC repair center without warranty. I really hope I can figure out how to fix it myself!
It seems more like something in the lens. Do you see it only while recording and playing back, or also when you are just looking through the camera?
