Remove power from the camera. I remove the battery as well. In the back of where the tapes go, on the left side is a silver component. It's just behind a metal roller that hangs down from a plastic piece over the head. If you look behind the roller diagonally across where the tape goes, you can see a black square on the right side of the silver component. Clean this (gently!) with a moist cotton swab. The swap should get a bit of black gunk off. I'd recommend cleaning it with a dry swab next to remove any moisture. Wait a minute or so to be sure it's dry. Then re-apply power. You should not see a false condensation message for a long time.

Open the door completely and set the camcorder in record mode. Remove the battery shut the door and plug it back in. I have tried it on nearly 3 brands of cassette type camcorders(Panasonic, Sony and JVC) and it worked. Might be worth a try.

Perform a manual power reset by following the steps: 1. Turn off the camcorder. 2. Disconnect AC power adapter. 3. Remove the battery pack. 4. Move the POWER switch to the A position for 15 seconds. 5. Move the POWER switch to the OFF position. 6. Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack. 7. Turn on the camcorder.

This device is many years old now - even if a repair were feasible, it would be prohibitively expensive. Time to replace with a more up-to-date model, which will have the added advantage that you can load video files directly your computer from the memory card. You may have tapes already recorded on your old machine - these can be transferred to DVD by any competent camera store.

Contact JVC in your country.

Probably a damaged or malfunctioning internal component, or the battery has reached the end of its useful life. Try with a different battery.

These are impossible to find free on the net but it's not a bad price if you are doing this repair yourself and saving hundreds.

This is usually caused by an oxidized, misaligned or defective Audio/Video drum. You can try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

The JVC USB driver was written before introduction of the Windows XP system. This warning is displayed with other manufacturer’s digital cameras, also, and is not strictly a JVC phenomenon. In order to use the USB interface between the camera and your computer, select the “CONTINUE anyway” option provided in this warning display. To JVC’s knowledge, there are no negative effects to using JVC driver with Windows XP.
