Laptop - Windows 98 Graphics & Sound Drivers

How do you install Windows 7 on your Compaq Presario 1692 Notebook PC, that currently has Windows 98 on it? (Win98SE?)

I would NOT.

Reasoning?

Primer:
Drivers are small pieces of software that allow the Operating System, to communicate with a device.

Windows 98, Windows XP, and Windows 7, are some examples of an O/S. (Operating System)

The optical drive (CD/DVD drive), audio, (Sound), graphics, and Ethernet, are some examples of a Device.

Let's go to HP Support, and look at the drivers available for the Compaq Presario 1692 Notebook PC, (HP bought out Compaq),

HP Support > Compaq Presario 1692 Notebook PC > Main Support page,

In the list click on the blue - Software and Driver Downloads.
(Don't believe we can use the Ampersand on here. That's why I used -

On this page you are asked to choose your Operating System.
In the rectangular box that has - Select - in it, go to the right of the box, and left-click on the blue down arrow.

In the drop down list you will see that Windows 7 is not listed.
This means there are no drivers for your laptop, and Windows 7.

There have been many people caitlynbrean, that have installed Windows 7 on their computer, only to find that it will not work.

You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure
you select your model laptop and the Windowsdrivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download thedrivers: -

Windows does not carry all device drivers. Go to the laptop manufactures website click support and then drivers find your model and download the correct driver for your system. Not all manufactures share drivers with Microsoft this has always been an issue. You should have received a driver resource CD when you bought it new. If you still have that cd all your drivers will also be on that not your operating cd.

try to install the driver by updating the driver in DEVICE MANAGER

• clck START
• Right click on MY COMPUTER
• Select PROPERTIES
• Select HARDWARE Tab
• Select DEVICE MANAGER
• Left Click on + sign of SOUND VIDEO and GAME controller
• Right Click on Sound Card
• Select Update Driver Software

your driver are located on C:\swsetup

do the same to above site 1.37mb
you must install the larger driver first then the smaller one
they do work use on my laptop c700
