What does the yellow light
After I tried all the reset, new battery, reinstall software with no results I put it in my hand and slapped it really hard with my other hand and the yellow light went out and it works again. I'm not making this up! Spank your mouse.

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse Model 1023
My green light on the receiver is ON. The mouse battery is new. The red LASER switches with movement. I read all of the posts, than I pulled apart the receiver and the wires were OK. There is a micro-switch in the receiver, so I pushed it when plugged in to the computer. The green light flashes, then I pushed the button on the bottom of the mouse, it connects. To make short of this, do not open the receiver case, just use a pen and push the green "connect" light (must be in USB port), it will activate reset switch and blink. Next, push "connect" on the bottom of mouse.

Wireless notebook password reset
There is no password for an optical mouse. You need the password for notebook? What OS are you using? Windows? Linux? What version?

How do you change battery
Look under your palm at the back of the mouse. On mine there is an oval shaped button that you can push to open the battery compartment door which is on top (actually it's the back half of the mouse).

Lost receiver for microsoft wireless mouse 5000 model 1387
A flash drive will not work as a receiver, you could try purchasing a new receiver for it, if you cannot find one for your model try to find another of the same brand as they are the most likely to work. Best bet really is to take your mouse with you to a store and try with one of the demo computers to make it work. Even if you don't want to buy it there you could get your research done all at once.

I am trying to change the battery in my mouse and
There is a button on the back end of your mouse - not the underneath - but the back end of the mouse.
Silver with a red squigle on it. press that and the part at the top of your mouse that says microsft should be lifted off - if it does not release, put your finger or something round the sides of the piece and it will lift off, and you place the battery there.
