My washer lost power. Was doing a wash cycle and opened lid to add more clothes and it stopped working. Didn't trip circuit breaker at electrical panel. Is there a breaker on the washer or other ideas? My wife thought she may have smelled something burning before it stopped working. Thanks in advance.

I would check the drainpump ans see if there is something jammed inside like a coin or screw, nail etc before doing anything else .Unplug the machine first though . A burning smell will occur with a load of water trying to spin .

Check to see if it is a pump problem or a transmission problem. First remove both belts see if all the pullys turn freely. if the pump has a tight feel check inside pump for a item jammed in it.look for transmission oil on floor or belts if oil is present transmmision if probably going.ALSO check at the top of the tubs for anything stuk in between tubs.

The problem seems to lie in the rubber backed mat. If the rubber has begun to peel of the mat it often-times get stuck in the drain pump. The best thing to do at this point is to disconnect the electrical cord, open up the machine, drain out the water as best as possible disconnect the power cord to the drain and the hoses. Clean out the drain pump. reassemble. You should be good to go., Unless the drain pump is burned out (left running plugged up too long) if thats the case, replacement of the pump may be neccessary.... Hope this helps...Good luck!.... http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/Dryer-Parts/index.aspx Take a look at what a new motor costs for your machine and go from there. Is may not be a motor is could be a belt or a bearing. I rebiult a washer for less then 50 dollars that one did not need a motor just bearings and a belt. I would take the washer apart so you can get an idea of what went wrong and then look at parts to repair it and decide what to do good luck
