To get the right colors, especially a plain white, requires the right mix of red, green and blue from the picture tube. Sony TV sets have a circuit called AKB that automatically keeps the picture tube balanced by adjusting the signals to it. If that balance can't be achieved it shuts off the picture. This may due to tube aging so one of the color guns is too weak to adjust, or failure of parts in the AKB circuit itself. If the sound stays on and the power light starts blinking when the picture goes off, this is likely why.

On the other hand, if the set is turning off completely with no picture, sound or power light, the set may have power supply problems or defective parts in the picture tube high voltage circuits.

Since there are several possible causes, this set needs to be checked by a technician who can diagnose the problem and decide what needs to be done. It's not a simple thing I can point to and say "change this part". If the picture tube is the cause, it's better to replace the set. Otherwise get an estimate, then decide whether to fix or replace.

My TV all of a sudden turned white and grey.

First, try to play DVD on your tv to determine if the problem is on TV itself. If the TV looks fine on DVD you have cable box connection problem if not you have faulty t-con board not bulb etc.

T-con is the responsible for colors and image graphics.

I have an AVOL 55' LCD tv and when I turn it on there is no picture. I put a DVD in and played it and I can hear sound but when it's the tv by itself there is no picture or sound at all. Ple

tried to look at the darkened room if their is a white screen, it could be the t-con board. if totally black screen, it could be the inverter board was busted or the screen back light itself.

I have an 1998 rca premiere and it keeps changing channels by itself and turning itself up

You need to change the picture-size by using the TV remote and or cable remote.
On the remote look for P-Size, Zoom, Sreen size or Ratio.

I have an LG 50PS8000 plasma tv which is nearly 2 years old. For the last few months its has occassionally been getting a red haze over the entire screen which either dissapeared on its own or went if you...

I've also had a popping noise on our 50" LG plasma TV, however the picture has not gone, but has turned grainy and colors are weird. Can this also be a blown fuse or a more severe problem (ysus board or similar)?

No picture, siren type noise as restarting

My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?

I have the akai model # ptf492s and the white colors are yellow

I'm almost positive the problem is you have fungus in the CRTs. I know this sounds strange, but it's true. Basically there is coolant fluid in the lamps that develops fungus over time and turns yellow. It should be clear. If you take the back off the television, you will see the 3 lenses (red, green, blue) Each of the lens is held on with 3 screws. Remove the adjustable lens and look at each CRT. Shine a flashlight in they should look white. From what I've read, blue develops the problem first, then green. You can replace the fluid. Look up TV coolant replacement online. It's not to difficult, but you cannot get any of the fluid on the circuit boards or it will ruin it. Mine had a lot of fungus in the blue CRT and a little in the green. The picture looks 100% better now. Good Luck.

Sony KV-35S66 Audio ok but no Video

Is your picture somewhat weak ? This could be a problem with the picture tube . One thing you can try is to turn the screen control up just alittle at a time to see if the picture comes in . Once it does turn off and back on to see it it comes back on again . It might take 10 to 20 seconds but if it does your picture tube is weak . The control is on the flyback transformer it is the bottom control . Or it may be on the crt board on the picture tube . One thing to check once the picture comes is the video input . If you go to this mode and see faint white lines might want to try to turn the control down a little more to see if you can get them out and the picture stays on , if not thats how going to have to watch it . These picture tubes are expensive $500.00 to 700.00 depending on which one you have . One possible other thing if you tell me the picture was a great picture almost like brand new check the horizontal section for a loose connection as this will cause this problem . Don't get shocked and be carefull , Good luck

Flashing Standby/Stero light and No picture.

How good is your picture when it did come ? Is it as good as it once was ? Or is it alittle washed out. If it is washed out the picture tube is weak . Sometimes turning up the screen control alittle would solve problem but if you turn it up too much you would have faint white line running diagonally. Now if you think the picture was good before you this problem video circuit would be your suspect . Jungle IC or something in the RGB circuits . Good luck
