That was exactly the solution I needed for my Jacuzi bath tub with the two handle faucet. The use of the screw in the top of the cartridge was needed to be able to get a strong enough hold on the cartridge stem. Mine is all recessed about 2 1/2 inches so I grabbed the screw head and stem with long nose pliers, and then clamped down on the pliers with a set of adjustable pliers, and then used a 1/2 block of wood as a lever to get pressure on. That got the cartridge to pop out! Thanks!

Moen Waterhill Bridge S713NL. How to replace cartridge? Can't get handle off?

Question edited for clarity and add CAPS.

Here is the parts breakdown. Your model is discontinued.

The hand lever unscrews, the part that holds the handle looks like a push fit and then there is a screw collar holding the cartridge. Increase Zoom to 200%.

It looks like they disagree with me, and their way is easier!

How to replace cartridge on a moen 2 handle faucet 7590

Remove the handle. If the white plastic retainer has a hex nut, remove it with an adjustable wrench. If the retainer has ears, a special Moen two handle cartridge tool is needed. After removing retainer, pull cartridge straight out.

Monticello 1248 cartridge removal

There is an actual tool for the Moen cartridges, not sure on the price but if you contact Moen they can help. As for actual removal , once the handle is removed there is a horseshoe shaped pin that secures the cartridge in place that needs to be removed. If the cartridge has never been removed you will need a bit of elbow grease to pull it out as they tend to stick very well.

Moen single handle shower faucet, contstanly drips

Moen single handle - push pull has a screw beneath the handle cover plate. The Moen single lever handle has an allen wrench screw located under the curve of the handle. Once either one of these screws are removed, the handle should come off easily.
Once the handle is off, the water must be turned off and then you can remove the cartridge. Some cartridges are difficult to remove and may require a special tool. Most new cartridge packages have information on them to explain how to remove the cartridge.

After consulting with Moen re: 2 knob Tub "cartridge" replacement, 12 yrs old, cold water not running, I did what I was told, after receiving the replacement cartridge 1248. (warranty replacement) The...

If the water is off but still coming through, open a tap or two on one of the lower levels.

Basically the old stem does come out thru the top of the valve. Hopefully Moen sent you the tool to do this job. The tool is a 3/4"diameter about 4 inches long. Even on one end and two little tabs on the other.

Take the handle off stem. Remove the upper retaining nut, usually chrome. Pull out the two plastic upper stem pieces. Insert the 2 tabbed end into the stem area. You will feel the tab drop into the retainer ring. Slowly rotate the retainer ring out Counterclockwise. After the retainer ring is out then put the long screw in the stem and pull it out. Sometimes a little leverage helps here.

You will have TWO retainer nuts. The first one is easy just under the handle, the second will require the special insert tool.

Please rate this response and good luck, Phil
