Hi there
This answers with a titch more detail.
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.
Some where in the paper path a sensor is activated indicating paper jam so the printer will give off a 6A00 code.
As a Canon tech, I usually find the code, almost 90% of the time, is related to the purge unit being jammed with something and not being able to move.
Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.
And yes I have found all those things in a purge unit.
The offending item needs to be removed or the purge unit needs replacement.
Incidentally, the 6A00 error pertains to all Canon printers made in the last several years, its not just used in one model.
And it’s always a paper path error or purge unit.
The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.
That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.
So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.
Also clean the purge unit out make sure all is clean.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

There was no paper jam in mine. So I thought it must be the purge unit that was the culprit. But the purge unit is stuck in a hard to access corner inside the inner cover. I thought I had nothing to lose but to try to clean the purge unit..... I cut paper towels into samller pieces, wetted a few pieces with water, then just extended my hand into the purge unit area and started wiping it. Man there was a lot of blue ink in the purge unit. I had to clean it many times, and carefully tried to wipe all surfaces of the purge unit as much as I could, then wipe it dry with a few pieces if dry paper towel. Then I tried to turn on the printer, and voila, it did reset successfully. 6A00 error message disappeared. Thank you for the pointer. It saved my MP530.

HI Guys 6A00 error usually cant't be fixed according to the service centre, I was lucky and actually bought an extended warranty, the service centre said that the MP530 are a good printer and worth fixing as they don't see many at all compared to other models and other brands. There was a broken piece of hardware that something to do with the print carriage. cheers vailey

Had to move the printer cartridge and shut down three times, but it finally kicked in and started working again. Don't give up just trying it once.

6A00 is a purge assembly error, thats the cleaning unit on the right where the printhead parks. Look on the right with a flashlight and see if there's paper, or anything that doesn't belong. If the wipers are jammed into the pad assembly, you will need a new purge unit, best changed by a shop.

HI,
Please the pixma off and open the lid.Now manually slide the cartridge-tray to the left.
Use a piece of tissue to clean the base-pad where the heads are
stored.See if it is stuck in a kind of upward position and look if the mechanism that moves the tray is released if not then touch it and it will be loose. Remove all ink residue, move the tray back to its most right position and close everything.
Let me know if you still get the same error.
Thank you
