My mp610 has just got new inks in it. I did the calibration and everything was fine but when I printed off a PDF document it only printed the coloured text and not the black. could it be possible that the pg-5bk ink cartridge needs replacing also as I just replaced the cli8's.

Yes because u installed both cartridges. if you only installed the color it will still print black by mixing the three colors (known as composite black) try to change the black first or remove it and use the composite black to print black text.

Canon mp610 will not print black. It prints in color or dark grey but a black text document comes out blank

The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies.

All my ink cartridges are full, yet anything that needs black ink that is sent from the computer doesn't work. It feeds through and prints everything else but black even with new full cartridges. It copies...

You might try changing preferences in control panel. The defualt for most photo printers is color since that is the most used feature (and sells the most expensive ink!). I finally bought an HP 1000 to use for everyday printing of documents and business items becuase it only needed black and white ink.

Black ink problem with printout on hp7780

Always try replacing the ink cartridges first.

It sounds like the print heads in the 7780 are bad. Don't confuse the ink cartridges with print heads. The cartridges fit inside the print heads. You will need to change the heads. Here is a link to HP's how-to.

The black, print quality when printing a document on white paper, is not 100%

Few questions, are you running true Canon Inks and refills are always a off black not a true canon black!

Have you tried doing nozzel check, does the top black squares all come out ok? if so it could be down to the paper and the inks!
if you use 80gsm paper does it print ok?

Hope this helps

Color prints too dark

1. Took out the color ink cart and clean the copper contacts of the ink cart with cotton swab, make sure that you do not touch the silver nozzle .
2. Try new ink color ink carts as someime this issue came up when the ink carts are about to finish up.
3. Replace the ink carts and do not us a refill ink.
