Short answer: You need to lubricate the plunger mechanisms in the brew unit.
Long answer: There are two rubber o-rings - one in the base of the brew unit and on the plunger that descends into this to form a seal. There are great instructions on how to take apart, clean and lubricate the brew unit here:
http://www.buessert.de/Technik/Jura-IMPRESSA-S95/Cleaning.htm
...but they are not for the faint hearted.
There is also a cheats way too which I use.
First, get some SILICONE lubricant. It needs to be Silicone. You can get it from ACE for $3.
Remove the door / funnel mechanism from the powder inlet - it just lifts out.
Usign a flashlight, take a look inside where the coffee grind goes. You will see a cylinder with a plunger mechanism at the bottom. You need to lubricate the ring on the bottom plunger and the tope one (which you cant see this way).
Use the flashlight and a knitting needle and place some silicone at the base of the plunger - you will see what I mean when you look inside with the flashlight. Also put some around the top lip of the cylinder (for the upper plunger). It is sticky and messy.
Press the "rinse" button.
You can do this a few times. The silicone will not affect the taste of your coffee. I tend to put a liberal amount in and then wipe off the excess with a kitchen towel on the end of the knitting needle.
This is fiddly, but it works. I do this in between complete disassembly, which I do about once per year using the above instructions. If you need to replace the o-rings, you should be able to find suitable replacements at a local hardware store but this is a trial-and-error process, I'm afraid. I have never ordered the ones linked to on that page.
Hope this helps.
Now, if only I could work out how to fix the leak from the rear....
Rgds,
John
Same problem here also.
Any body got the order of pulling one of these things to bits. I want to have a look at the works. We have sent our S9 away about 4 times to get this fixed - 2 new brew units, 2 'O' ring replacements. It works for about 4 to 6 months after we get it back then starts taking longer to dump then binds up and shows an error 8. Turn the power off for awhile, resart and it works again for a couple of cups. I've taken the top off, looks like a need a 3mm socket for the 2 fixings on the lower back.
Hi,
Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.
Performing a manual power reset
Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.
If the issue persists, service may be required.

same problem.
who knows how to fix it???
Got E75 about 4 yrs old and it frequently does this now.
Also the grindr doesn't seem to work anymore - it whirls around but doesn;t grind much coffee. I had this happen to the first one (which they replaced under warrenty after about 3 months) - they said the grinder was stripped!!! All I had done was use some darker beans. these thibgs are a piece of **** - they will only do VERY light beans and I'm ready to chuck my one out. I've had it serviced a number of times for about $100 each and a few weeks without(that's the worst!). Sounds like thier most recent machines are the same.
I have Jura E8 and got the malfunction 8 problem - for me it was because it couldn't **** the water out. I had attempted to install the water filter but didn't reprogram it. I took out the filter and that cleared the error - after power down/up.
anyone located a service manual for Capresso's? Evidently they have really been successful at not letting them get out, but certainly a tech somewhere could scan and upload one.
Have the same problem. Jura S9, 7.5 years old. First appeared some time last fall, and the manual said take off power and then turn back on. Worked fine back then. Now I had to clean it and it's all stuck. Had trouble getting the tray out. Something is totally stuck and I have no idea how to fix it myself. I took the grounds-box out of the tray to be able to put it back in, because some part of the machine is in the way when I try to get the tray back in WITH the grounds-box. Any help is deeply appreciated as the next service point is is about 200 miles away from here :o(
Same problem here. After 2-3 cups of coffee it shows Malfunction-8.
Same problem here, it shows Malfunction -8 after 2-3 cups of coffee.
Since we know the problem and only two of us use it, I don't bother to repair it or lubricate it. After I read a complete disassembly and partial lubricating jobs, I wonder anyone would have a copy of the electrical circuit diagram? I believe it is not an individual machine problem, maybe it is a design flaw to start with. Keep lubricate O-ring is not a solution to solve the problem. How about increase current limiting motor torque by say 10%, or change software routine?
