Turn on the camera and set the language and date/time by following the instructions in the Extended User Manual.

You didn't give the model number of your Coolpix, so I can only give you general instructions. Explore your camera's menu. Somewhere, you will find an item that will allow you to turn the date stamp on or off and set the current date and possibly the time.
The menu on the camera controls the date and time stamp. Turn on the menu i camera mode, there are three choices, Camera, Settings and customize. Time stamp should be in the middle menu. Look for time settings and turn it off. All pictures have time and date always. The time/date stamp just makes it visible in the image.
The date stamp only works in "Postcard" resolution. Press the Func Set button, then scroll down to the bottom to select postcard resolution.
Then press the menu button. The date time stamp selection should now work. Simply turn it on.
Date stamp is only possible when you set the resolution (picture size) at "Postcard 1600x1200" option, if the date stamp is set to "Date & Time" or "Date" option
In order to get the date stamp on the pictures, the resolution/size has to be set to "Postcard". Look at the menu and you will see L, M1, M2, M3, S, and Postcard. Then you can turn on the date stamp option.
Please spend some time in the menu item referring date stamp, date,record,time if you catch off that item. For taking 3 pics ,You might have switched on the MULTI in the menu in camera or shooting mode
