If you take the rear cover off the inside of the freezer you can see the evaporator coils. observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Why will it not come on?

The rust shouldn't make any difference.

When you plug it in, does the interior light turn on? If not, suspect the wall outlet - test it for power by plugging in something else. If the interior light turns on, listen very closely to the freezer. It should hum. If it doesn't, toy with the freezer control inside - it may just be turned off. Turn it to about midpoint and listen very closely to it again. If still no hum, wait a short while, then feel carefully on the outside of the cabinet - it may be running through a defrost cycle. The outside of the cabinet may get warm while that's happening, especially around the door gaskets. Wait a while (half an hour, an hour, for the defrost cycle to finish - the freezer should run then.

If it never hums, then the compressor isn't running, so adding freon won't make any difference. Instead, suspect the defrost timer - that's a little electronic circuit board inside.

If it HUMS but never gets COLD, then you potentially have a freon leakage problem. It's difficult at best, though, to refill a refrigerator or freezer - they don't usually have refill taps.

Oh, yes. If the internal light never comes on but you've proven that the wall outlet has power, it's entirely possible that the plug is bad and needs to be redone.

Proline freezer helpline

The red light is usually just a power on indicator and should always be on as long as the is voltage is being supplied to the unit.

Just had a new upright Frigidaire freezer delivered two days ago. Plugged it in immediately. It did not get cold after several hours. Turned it off then back on. Unplugged it. Unplugged it for several...

Whenever you get a frig or freezer delivered it is best to wait at least 24hrs (some say 8 hrs) before you plug in. It maybe unknown to you if this was shipped to you in the laying down postion. If it was and you plugged in it will not work because laying down the oil migrated away from the compressor.

Other than that the freezer could have (possible chance but still possible) problems that are out of your control. If you brought it at a retail store you have at least 2 weeks to exchange. Do that a.s.a.p.
Dont bother trying to figure out just exchange!!!

hope this was helpful

Both Lights flashing and fridge not getting cold

I turned the fridge and freezer off using the circular dials, I then turned the unit off at the mains. Left it for a few minutes and then turned the power back on. I then turned the circular dials to "max" and then depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons to turn this facility on. This time they came on normally (not flashing) and no alarm sounded. The fridge and freezer then started to get cold. Once the unit had been running for several hours I then turned the dials to the 3/4 mark and depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons again to turn them off. Over night the fridge and the freezer appear to be working properly so I hope that my problem is solved. Maybe the unit just needed to "settle" before being switched on?

I just bought a second hand upright 20cubic foot frigidair freezer. Its been on for about 3 hours and it feels really hot to the touch on both sides. Did I just get taken or is this normal? It was running...

Did you lay it down when you moved it?
If so you need to leave it standing up for 12-24 hours before you turn it on.

Or you may have just been ripped of.

The unit has been on for 4 hours and is still not cold, would also like to replace seal

First off it takes 24 hours for a freezer to bring the inside temperature down to a suitable temperature, but to replace the seal raise the edge of the seal and you will see the track that hold it on, please allow 24 hours to see if temperature drops and repost details

The red light bis indicating that the temp is too high, if you can ,turn the thermostat to a colder setting, if this makes no difference, then you have a serious problem, you will have to call an engineer.
