SOURCE: Dell A960 cartridge problem
Does the black cartridge print? If not did you take the tape off of it? Error 50 is a generalized error reading relating to a number of cartridge problems. If the color cartridge is empty, it may be theproblem although I have not found this to be true on Dell printers. If you remove the color cartridge and reinstall it the reading will indicate its full (even though it isn't. This may solve the problem.

If this printer is like some of the HP printers I have serviced in the past, many printers like this use a tiny bit of color as a "primer" to make the black "blacker" and to prevent bleeding in systems where the color is dye and the black is pigment.
A number of printers may allow a "use black only" in the driver settings, but many other printers will simply refuse to print if the color runs out, even if you are printing black and white.
The short answer is, chances are, you need to replace the color cartridge.

You have a bad cartridge. They have chips in them. Return it.
