Dropping the Feed Dog
The feed dog can be lowered with the drop-feed lever for sewing on buttons etc.
Shift the drop-feed lever to the right to lower the feed dog.
Shift the lever to the left to raise the feed dog, it will return to the up position when the machine is started.
NOTE:The feed dog should be in the up position for regular sewing. Turn the handwheel toward you to check if the feed dog comes up after setting the lever in the up position
Usually when you slide the knob to drop the feed dogs they drop immediately. But when you switch the knob back to raise the feed dogs, they won't come up until you rotate the handwheel one revolution in the forward direction.
Flick switch to the UP position.....then....
Turn handwheel one full revolution to reset the feeddog cam
It is on page 26 of your User Manual

On many machines you tilt the machine back on its hinges to see the underside and there you will find a thumbscrew to lower the feed dogs...you also need to be sure that your machine is capable of having its feed dogs lowered...not all machines can do this!
These machines are known to have this problem. The feed lift cam has a groove worn in it that won't allow the feed dogs to come back up. It is on the lower shaft and needs to be replaced. You can get the feed dogs back up by taking off the needle plate and lifting them up manually while turning the hand wheel. They should stay up until you drop them again. Some people will not replace the cam and live with it. good luck!
I hate to sound dismissive but: read the manual. Duh. It is not as written above: drop dog........ The feed dog is the toothed pieces in the sewing machine deck, under the needle, which move the material away from you when you push the operating pedal. Dropping the dog - ie making it inoperative - (see manual for how to on your machine) means the material has to be propelled by hand under the needle. This is especially good for freehand machine embroidery as it means you can move the material in any direction whilst sewing. It can be easier to freehand embroider if your material is fixed in to an embroidery hoop to hold it flat while you work.
on the backside of your free arm there is a small lever which can be moved to lower the feed dogs. When you want them back up move the lever the other way.NOTE!! They will not go up until the machine has made one revolution. sewman7
