this should make sure scanner work.. but if it still doesnt work then go back to the device manager and check if there are any hradwares with a yellow question mark beside them.if there is then right click on them and click update driver.
if that does not solve the problem try reinstalling the CD or go to the canon MP00 web page (google it) to dowmload the printer/scanner drivers. and repeat everything until it works or until you give up =). hope it all works out bye!

SOURCE: Canon mp610 scanning problem

The readme says that some USB hubs have an issue.

I was having problems and was connected via a hub. I removed the hub and connected the printer directly to the back of the PC and voila scanning is all good.

SOURCE: Scanner won't communicate with computer

Try this,

Go to Control Panel >> Device Manager, look for the scanner in 'Device Manager' under 'Imaging Devices'
Right click on it and select 'Uninstall' and allow it to be uninstalled.
Remove the USB lead from the scanner.
Re-boot the Computer.
Once windows appears and is ready toi use, re-connect the scanner USB lead.
Windows should re-install the drivers and tell you the scanner is ready to use................hopefully!

SOURCE: Canon MP190 ScanGear error

Hi ....

Its always a pleasure to meet someone who has done the initial troubleshooting themself ... so looking at your comments, you have already tried the hardware and the drivers steps ... it shows that the issue is not with the device but something with your system ...

To me, it looks like the necessary files for the scan to work is missing from your system which is USBSCAN.SYS. This is a windows system file which is required by the scan drivers ...

Note: Make sure you are searching the hidden files too as this is a system file and could be hidden.

  1. Click 'Start', 'Search' and select 'For Files or Folders'.

  2. At 'Search Results' window, type usbscan.sys in 'Search for files or folders named' field.

  3. At 'Look in' drop-down menu, confirm your computer's hard drive is selected. In most cases, C: is the computer's hard drive.

  4. Click 'More advanced options' link.

  5. Confirm checkmarks appear beside 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders and 'Search folders'.

    searchmore_wxp.gif

  6. Click 'Search' button.

  7. Once search has completed and if the file does not exist, consult the computer manufacturer.

    1. If the file exists and a message appears while installing the scan driver, direct the installer to the appropriate path. For example, C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
    2. If the file exists and the message appears while scanning, click on the attachment to open Device Manager and check if the scanning device is listed as 'Other'. Then update the driver and direct the installer to the appropriate path. For example, C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers (where C is your computer's hard drive letter).

  8. Close the 'Search Results' window.
I think this file is missing from the computer which is causing the problem. But there is another possibility as well. There are some services of the computer that need to be started to make sure that the device works file. The services are for everything like spooler services for printer so similarly there are WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Service or Stimon(98 or ME) services for scanner depending upon your operating system.

It might be possible that these services are stoped or disabled. Follow the below steps to enable those servers:

How to start the Windows Imaging Acquisition (WIA) Service (Win XP)
  1. Click Start.

  2. Right-click My Computer and select Manage. This brings up the 'Computer Management' window seen below.

    servic1.jpg

  3. Under 'Services and Applications' click Services. This will display a list of services in the right pane of the 'Computer Management' window. A portion of this window is seen below.

    servic2.jpg
  4. Scroll through the list to locate and then double-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
This brings up the 'Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Properties' window seen below.

    servic3.jpg

  5. Be sure that 'Startup type:' is not set to Disabled. You can choose either Automatic or Manual.

  6. Once you have enabled the 'Startup type:', under 'Sevice status:' click the Start button to start the service.

How to start STIMON (Windows 98 & Me)
  • Click Start, then Run, and type "stimon.exe" and click OK.

Well according to me, this should resolve the problem. Just one more very important thing ....

Don't forget to vote if this helps :) ... Cheers ...

Canon 5600f scans documents but not film, error code is 171,0,0.

Error code 171,0,0 on the Canon 5600F scanner indicates a communication error between the scanner and the computer. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Check the cable connection between the scanner and the computer. Make sure that the USB cable is securely plugged in on both ends and that there are no visible signs of damage.
  2. Try a different USB port on the computer. Sometimes, the USB port that the scanner is plugged into can be the issue.
  3. Make sure that the scanner driver is installed and up-to-date. You can check for driver updates on the Canon website.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the scanner driver. This can sometimes fix communication issues.
  5. Try scanning film with a different scanning software. There may be an issue with the software you are using.
If none of these steps work, it's possible that there may be a hardware issue with the scanner. In this case, you may need to contact Canon support for further assistance.

Hi, i have a canoscan lide 25, it's installed, but when push the scan button, nothing happens. but when i open control panel and click test scanner, it works and makes sounds and says test is complete.

What is your OS? Do you have the full featured software installed and set up (TWAIN driver plus the Toolbox including ScanGear CS )? Do you mean the software scan button or the hardware (on the scanner) button?

If you are trying to launch a scan from the scanner, then scan button will only work if the computer has the full software and is running the monitoring program. You also need the default destinations in the software. These are the standard resolution for the scan and the folder to save the resulting file among other things. The full software is available for supported OS versions here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide25?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware#DriversAndSoftware . Test scanning from the computer software as well.

If the problem is at the software on your computer, try a new data cable. If you are using a USB hub, try a direct connection. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer and will fail if there is any damage to the USB port, driver or cable. If you can, try a different USB port. If problems persist, disconnect the data cable between the computer and the scanner. Uninstall the Canon software and the driver. Then reinstall and try scanning again. (For Windows OS versions, check the Device Manager to make sure that your USB driver is working. Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware (title varies with version) > Device Manager. If you see a triangle with a red X or yellow exclamation point, try updating the driver.)

I hope this helps.

Canon ScanGear CS driver error Code: 2,252,0 - Can't preview Actually I have the Canon CanoScan LiDE 80 Flatbed Scanner - but this wasn't presented as an option, so I thought I'd try the nearest...

Hi,

Canon ScanGear CS driver error Code: 2,252,0. Error when trying to Preview scan using ScanGear in your program, e.g. Word, PhotoShop...

I had the same problem, Canon Technical were clueless on this error code. Yes the problem occured when trying to preview first however I could scan but without any preview, pointless really.

I have fixed it for Windows Xp SP3, Canon Lide 80. To Fix:

You need to download the latest ScanGear driver and Deldrv.exe from the canon website. You don't need the Toolbox, http://software.canon-europe.com/

It would help if you have Tuneup 2009 (even Trail version) for the later parts of this fix: http://www.tune-up.com/download/ just click download, you don't need to give them your email address.

1. Save these on C:
2. Remove the USB cable from your scanner - make sure it is unplugged.
3. Run Deldrv.exe, select your scanner and uninstall.

4. Now you will need to go into 'C:/WINDOWS/TWAIN_32' folder; you must remove anything in this folder - safest thing to do is CUT any items and paste them on the C: or personal folder.

5. Now the register parts - you need to purge your registry of any left over values. I found out after several attempts that this final step fixed the problem for me.

Basically through Windows XP Regedit or TuneUp Reg Editor search the ENTIRE registry for first 'ScanGear', second, 'Canon' and third if you have installed previously, 'Canon Toolbox'. Find any entries relating to any Canon scanner software and delete them. I only found around 6 or 7 entries to remove.

6. If you have TuneUp run '1-Click maintence' (correct problems) and afterwards run the 'Register defragger'. Restart.

7. On the next bootup your register should be optimised. Ok, disable any Anti-virus software.

8. Run the scangear setup winzip file you saved on C:. * it will extract a folder to C:. If get an error with the extraction, try running it anywhere else except C drive. Alternatively if you have WinRar, right click and manual extract contents. The scangear setup winzip file/folder (called lide80vst7250a_xpen) only contained a readme and setupSG.exe.

9. You must run the setupSG inside this folder. And you're done. Enable your anti-virus.

9. Now connect USB to scanner, Windows should pick it up. Open Word or PhotoShop > run the scangear program to preview.

10. Done! It worked my end.

Please let me know if this helped you.
