Your toner cartridge may be the culprit.
Take the cartridge out and shake sideways and up/down. Reinstall it and try again.
If it's still printing faded side, replace the cartridge.
If colours are faded I would recommend running several cleaning/deep cleaning cycles to try and pull through the colours. It is difficult to say without seeing the print quality, but it sounds like an issue with a partially blocked printhead within the printer. The printing in blue would suggest to me that one of the blacks in your printer is blocked. Were all 5 colours present on the nozzle check?
If you have trid a different toner cartridge, then I would first try a new drum (not sure if toner & drum are in same cartridge, some are so you will have to check that) If not that, then I would suggest the transfer roller bar would be my next suspect if the printer has a lot of copies done on it.
There are two reasons for faded prints. Firstly, faded
print could be due to exhausting toner. If it you have faded prints
even after replacing the toner cartridge or if your current cartridge has
enough toner, it is most likely be
due to dust/ toner dust accumulated at the laser reflecting mirrors inside the printers, which partially blocks laser beams and requires cleaning/ servicing by a professional. Hence, it is recommended that you get the printer checked/ serviced from authorized service center.
Assuming that you are using original Canon cartridges or a brand of Compatibles that you have used before.
If print results are blurred, colors are faded or not printed correctly, the pint head nozzles are probably clogged. Follow the procedure below to print the nozzle check pattern, check the print head nozzle condition, then clean the Print Head. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times. If printed ruled lines are misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, aligning the Print Head may improve print quality. Caution Do not rinse or wipe the Print Head and ink tanks. This can cause trouble with the Print Head and ink tanks. Note Before performing maintenance Open the Top Cover and make sure that all lamps on the ink tanks are lit red. If not, see Checking the Ink Status and take an appropriate action. Increasing the print quality in the printer driver settings may improve the print result.
When you print photos you print in Max dpi, for this no faded lines anywhere. Probably you have a problem only in black color in print head. Мay be it's partially clogged or partially defective.
You probably need to replace the convergence IC's and do a good cleaning of the internal mirror and lens. This repair will involve soldering and un-soldering on the printed circuit board. If you have no printed circuit board repair experience, play it safe, and have a pro do this repair for you as that price sounds reasonable for this type of repair. Good luck!
