Will not print envelopes. also is looking for more than one envelope

hi, each and every envelope has a code to identify it. So you printer knows what the size and format of the envelope is. you must select the code in envelope section from your application which you are printing your address for the envelope from eg; MS-Word. You should do this because not only dimentions of the envelope is telling the printer where to print but the weight of the envelope so it can allow for the thicker paper coz at some corners of the envelope it is 3x the thickness. feed it from the rear of the printer (manual feed) so it has its straightest path and does not have to curl around the rollers. make sure you feed it into the correct path there should be a line as a guide to where to feed it in so it can configure itself to where to print on the envelope.. i hope that helps you.. cheers!

Feeding envelopes

Envelopes have always been a problem with the Riso feed mechanisms. Most envelopes have an imperceptible coating on them to allow them to stand up to outdoor conditions better. It makes the paper a little slicker and thus harder for the rubber rollers to feed.

If you want to reliably feed envelopes you need to make sure your rollers are fresh and the angle/pressure settings are exactly right. Good luck!

How to load evelopes HL 2140

Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2
When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.

Open the back cover

Open the manual feed slot cover.

Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

ā€¢ Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up.
ā€¢ Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
ā€¢ Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
ā€¢ If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.

Envelope printing

I have an older, but similar, 5510 model with the same problem. A partial solution that works about 75% of the time is to tuck the envelope flap inside the envelope and give the end of the envelope that is to feed into the machine a slight curve by gentlly bending it on both sides. Then make sure there are only a few sheets of paper in the paper tray (less than 1/8" thick stack). Position the envelope so it is only about 1/2" from the end of the paper in the tray so the feed rollers have to transport it into the machine. I also have to set the margin for the return address in Word to be 1" from the edge of the paper so it prints in proper position, but this may be a problem with my Word 2000.

Prints dry colour powder on paper

You aren't fusing (melting) the toner to the paper. The probable cause for this is having the "envelope feed" levers in the "envelope", or up, position. This leaves a wider path for the paper, which does not allow the toner to be fused onto the paper properly.
The envelope feed levers are the two small green levers at the rear of the printer, one on each side, that are visible when the printer's top is lifted.

Printing envelopes

you can replace the paper in the main tray with the envelopes. this is the only way unless you have a secondary paper tray or manual paper feed that does not override the main paper feed
