SOURCE: Even after putting new batteries it gives message"change the batteries"

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may have reached their shelf life, and though brand new, may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Retailers sell these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

SOURCE: even when i put new batteries in my canon

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

SOURCE: Canon IXUS 100is battery pack problem.

Happened the same with mine. At the beginning I tough it was related with the sd card as when I removed the card the camera would turn ON. Later on I found it to be related with the camera contacts. After cleaning the battery contacts with alcohol and a cotton swab it started to work fine. SOLUTION: Clean battery gold contacts.

SOURCE: My Canon S2 IS keeps saying 'change the battery'

there is a little coing battery located inside the battery compartment for the AA's. CR1220 you can get this at Radio Shack for about $5. If this battery is bad you will get the change batteries screen no matter how many fresh AA's you put in, Use a good quality alkaline battery such as the Energizer rechargable rated at 2700 mAh.

New A490 camera, loaded a new 8GB SDHC memory card, says "Memory card error". Checked to see if I need formatting, but format key is not usable. Can you help?

It's probably a manufacturer's error on the card or the card is locked.
  • did you check whether the card works OK on a computer? if it doesn't, it's likely to be a factory error. If it's new you can probably get it replaced.

  • If it's locked, it can be very easily fixed by yourself.
  1. Turn off cam.
  2. Take out the mem. card. (it's probably located near the battery. press down on it and release it. Then it will pop out.)
  3. Slide the small switch on the side of the card to the position marked with an unlocked padlock.
  4. Put card back in and turn on cam.
There you go. hope that helped. good luck and happy shooting!

My Canon PowerShot A490 has an error "memory card locked"....how do I fix that, please?

Turn off the camera and take off the memory card. There is a small tab on the upper right side of the card. Just adjust that tab upwards to unlock it. Then put it back and try again.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FIxYa.

I need to import pictures from my laptop to my canon powershot a490 but i cant seem to? help please?!

Be sure that there is at least one picture (just take one) on the memory card. This ensures the canon folder structure is in place. Put your memory card in a card reader. Copy the files from the laptop to the memory card.

For canon, you will see subfolder on the memory card DCIM and under that another folder, something like 136CANON (the 136 could be any number). Put the pictures in that one and you should be able to see them on the canon powershot a490

I have a Canon powershot A1100is dig camera. When I try to turn it on, it reads need new batteries. even if I change the batteries. Sometimes it wont even turn on. Help

Do you using Ni-MH batteries? Canon cameras judge the battery is low power by the real-time voltage of the batteries. And the voltage of Ni-MH batteries are lower than Li-ion ones, so the camera will notice low power even there are new batteries. Try Li-ion ones and see is anything help. best wishes!!
