SOURCE: Fill Water Tank But Water Tank is Full
As suggested previously by pierre235, the solution is really simple: make sure that the float in the tank really does float when water is full. Here it is exactly how...>>...fill the tank slowly (as it is still unattached to the machine) ensuring that the float does float and then slowly put/attach the tank back with the machine - keep checking the display for status. Then, if it's OK, fill the rest of the tank until it's full. Then restart the machine - voi la .. all works.

Check the little black rectangular box which is in a plastic channel at the back. To work properly, the rectangular box, with the narrower end facing downwards, needs to be floating at the top of that channel. Apparently it's a magnet which signals the circuitry that the water tank is full. Make sure it's floating to the cap of the channel. If not, you can get a replacement one from Gaggia.
