I DID THE SAME THING WITH STICK ON VELCRO. WHEN THE NEEDLE STUCK IN THE ADHESIVE IT PULLED THE PART BELOW THE BOBBIN HOLDER OUT AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. PRICEY REPAIR AND LESSON LEARNED.
first did you find the broken needle. A lot of times the part that broke off will fall down in your hook assembly and lock up the machine. That is what it sounds like. If its the drop in bobbin the take your needle plate off and check your bobbin case. It probably has popped out of where it should be. Take it out make sure there is nothing in the hook area and put the bobbin case back in. That should fix your probalem
Sounds like you've got a thread jam going on in the bobbin case area. Good cleaning and a new needle will probably fix it. See: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091202121550AAHxN8y
best suggestion try inserting new needle. cotton up the top suggests needle problem or incorrect top thread tension, this would effect the feed dog. Because thread is black and most recent use was with pink, the problem thread was already there perhaps in cavity above bobbin but below throat plate. I have had this happen and nothing will move, untill needle released. The bobbin holder tension may also need adjusting after the knots of black cotton are removed.
it's very possible that the machine jumped time, even tho the needle didn't break, it's possible that the needle bent. the machine needs to be retimed at a sewing machine shop.
Try the process of elimination. Take out the needle, take off the needle plate, take out the bobbin case. Run the machine. Does if run full speed? You might have to let the machine run for about 5 minutes. If it runs slow or you hear it slow down, you might have a bad connecting link between the needle bar and the main shaft counter weight. They seize up sometimes. (Shop Repair).
