Problems sending and receiving faxes.

I am unable to send and receive faxes from my 4-in-1 X5650. When I try sending a faxe I am propmted by a voice to activate my service. How do I do that? And what is the difference between a tone/pulse phone?
Please help?

  1. Open Lexmak Productiviti studio - 5600 - 6000 Series ( icon on Desktop)
  2. Open Setup and manage faxes link ( left bottom corner)
  3. On Ringing and Answering card look at the Manual Answer Code ( if some nuber inside delete it, it should be blank)
  4. On Dialing and sending card look at the Dial method (if you have a tone phone select Touch - tone, and if you have pulse phone select Pulse)
The diference betwen Touche Tone and Pulse is that Tone when you press nuber hear tone (like on cell phone), and Pulse when you dial nuber hear serie of short pulses (like when you dial nuber 5 you hear 5 short pulses like tttttt)

Canon mf5770 not receiving faxes

Most fax machines allow you to set the number of times the phone rings before it automatically answers the phone. So if you phone goes to voice mail after 4 rings and the fax machine is set to start the fax after the 5th ring it will never receive the faxes because the call went to voice mail. Good Luck

Can't send or receive faxes

it's most likely the compression on the phone line or you need to set up your fax machine for proper receive mode.
Contact your phone service provider to see if they support faxes.
(Faxes cannot handle nearly as much compression as standard voice)

Able to send faxes but unable to receive faxes.

You probably have to set something up in your settings.

Usually this goes: Settings>Fax Setup>Receive

Of course, this is generic, and all Fax machines are different. Is there a model number?

We can send faxes but we can not receive faxes. The fax machine that sends the fax tell it that our line is busy. Is that a machine problem or a phone line problem?

Problem lies in your Receive Mode setting. If you don't have a dedicated phone line for the fax machine, you need to set it up for either Manual where you answer every call or Fax/Tel whereby the Fax machine determines if the incoming call is a fax or phone call. Instructions per Intellifax 4100 Manual.

Select a Receive Mode
Choose the mode that best suits your needs by pressing the Mode button
repeatedly until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights show the setting you want to use.
Manual
You must answer every call yourself.
The Brother machine must be started manually
to receive faxes.
Fax
For use with a dedicated fax line.
Every call is answered as a fax.
Fax/Tel
For receiving fax and voice calls on one line.
The FAX answers every call and receives a fax or
double rings for you to pick up a voice call.
TAD
For use with an answering device.
The TAD answers every call and stores voice messages.
Fax messages are printed.

  9. When you hear a high-pitched signal, press <Color> for color sending, or <Black> for black & white sending. Then hang up the handset.

CANNOT RECEIVE A FAX

Slim1234,
A multitude of problems might cause receive problems, and the User's Guide has no "receive Problems" section under troubleshooting - so here goes:

If I had to guess right off the bat, your problem is probably
that the FAX is in "FAX Storage" mode, and is out of memory.
In this mode, it will print FAXes until it runs out of memory.
See problem "g" below.

   a. Voice mail active on the line - if voice mail and FAX-2820 are
set to answer the line on the same number of rings, there's
no way to know which will answer first.

   b. Voice mail active on line - if voice mail is set to answer in
fewer rings than the FAX, then the FAX will always lose
(but you'll have no problems Xmitting).

   c. Call Waiting active on the line - the call waiting "boop" will
kill incoming FAXes (and outgoing FAXes too, but your
personnel will retry the outging ones until they succeed
and you may only hear complaints about incoming FAXes).

   d. Your FAX-2820 is set to "Manual" or "External TAD" mode.
Reset it to "FAX only" or "FAX/Tel" mode (depending on
your office use of the FAX telephone line).
How to do this: Menu/Set,0,1 <up/down to select mode>
                              press Menu/Set.
NOTE: your LCD display tells you your receive mode:
Mine says "Sleep 22:08 Fax", telling me I'm in "FAX only"
       mode, and its 10:08 PM.

   e. You've set the FAX to RING DELAY - if so, the FAX
must win. Setting ring delay to 00 tells the FAX to answer
the line silently (an advantage for a busy MD's office).
       How to change this: Menu/Set,2,1,1
       Ref: FAX-2820 User's Guide p.4-2

   f. You dont have a shared (FAX/human) line set to
"Easy Receive"; if someone answers the call and
Easy Receive is off, then they need to press START on
the fax machine front panel or dial *51 and hang up.
      How to change it: Menu/Set,2,1,3
      REF: Fax-2820 User's Guide p. 4-2

  g. You may be set up for "FAX storage."  In this mode, received
FAXes will be stored (and printed) until you run out of
memory (quickly done on a Brother FAX-2820), then you
get nada (but sending FAXes still works).
How to reset this: Menu/Set,2,5,1 <up/down>
      REF: Fax-2820 User's Guide p.6-2

  h. You may have set up FAX forwarding.  In this mode, sending
FAXes will work fine, but all incoming FAXes willl be sent
      to another telephone number.
How to turn it off: Menu/Set,2,5,1 <up/down>

If this laundry list of (sending OK, Receiving dead) scenarios
doesn't resolve the problem, email your FAX number to me
and we'll do some cross-country FAX debugging.

                                  [email protected]
P.S.
The above features may have been set remotely by a
nefarious (or somewhat knowledgeable) individual - remember
that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing (even for
FAXes). See (extensive) remote programming instructions
on p.6-6 of the User's Manual.

To print out the caller ID list - and possibly find out the
   source of the remote programming:
   Menu/Set,2,0,3 <up/down to "print report">, Menu/Set,
    Start, <Caller ID report prints>, Stop/Exit
   Ref: Brother Fax-2820 User's Guide p.A-3

Doesn't receive from two fax numbers outside the UK

I would suggest there is nothing actually wrong with your machine, as you can indeed receive faxes from other parties. The problem mostly likely lies with the equipment and/or lines of the sending party. One thing you might suggest to them is to turn off ECM (Error Correction Mode) and/or lowering the sending/receiving speed of the machine - preferably the sending speed of the sending party.
