I can hear the motor buzzing when switched on but the pump won't activate I am told this could be the micro switch stuck in the off position I have the elec power unit dismantled and cannot see the part on the parts list I asked for the kb2020 list but the motor configuration looks different is there more than one type of kb2020 model??
SOURCE: karcher pressure washer leaking oil
all 4 stroke engines have oil, and 2 stroke can have a oil mixer reservoir to mix with engine gas or to lube the chains , gears, pumps.
If yours is 4 stroke as likely then the oil may be leaking at the seals to the main. (bad news)
Pressure wash it (lol) and locate the leak,
to speed up the leak you can pump some compressed air into the engine (be creative)
SOURCE: Karcher Power Washer Problem
I had the same problem with my Karcher. The recall was lifted Aug. 0f 2007. Tried numerous people at Karcher....head of Customer Service, vice president, etc. No one returns telephone calls not even cutomer service....poor, very poor customer service. Thinking about calling Germany.

The solution is very simple. All you have to do is change the spill valve.
This because the spill valve is not worth servicing. The actual problem is that the spill valve is leaking from its bottom-part seating. When you close the gun, the spill valve goes down, opens from the underside, and switches the electricity off. When you press the gun, the spill valve returns to normal, and if the underside does not close, you have low presure, because the water keeps circulating.

Dear dumbelldaveb,
Having a 13A fuse I am concluding that the machine is single phase. Most probably you have a faulty capacitor. Check the capacitor and if you find it expanded and leaking...then you must change it with a new one. If you see the capacitor is normal just the same it could be shorted. So change the capacitor with a new one and try to start the machine WITHOUT LOAD. Which means no water inlet and no gun attached. Doing this you can also remove temporarly the micro switches. If the motor still hums, then most probably there is a fault in the electric motor.
Now if you find out that the fault is the capacitor (which in my opinion it is the case)...you must see why the capacitor broke. If when using the machine and the gun is closed, the machine starts on and off on its own,...this will damage the capacitor. This on and off fault could come from a leaking gun. Or a leak from the seals. Whatever....the machine must not be left going ON and Off when the gun is closed. This ON and OFF could be due to faulty micro switches and control valves.
I am very sorry to mention a lot of things, but I hope as in many cases,..the changing of the capacitor will solve the problem. I wish to add that the electrical lead wire must be checked. On many occasions I found that the electrical lead wire from the plug to the machine was damaged and shorted, ..due to pulling, wear and tear.
Regards,
Fulltech.
