How to remove impeller from a.o. smith

the impeller is screwed on like a bottle cap. On a sq flange motor, it is harder to do. the armature spins when you try to remove the impeller. you can try to use needle nose vise grips to keep it from spinning by gripping the shaft from underneath (between pump and motor) then try unscrewing the impeller. If this does not work, You will have to remove the armature. their are 4 thru bolts that can be removed from the back of the motor. they are each about a foot long. WD40 the place where the connect to the pump housing or you may break the housing. When removed, you can tap the rear of the armature with a hammer and chisel. when it pops free, remove the armature from the motor. you now have in your hand, the pump still attached to the armature. you can place the armature in a vise, (make sure you do not damage it) then use channel lock pliers to unscrew the impeller. The impeller may still break. Or you can try and place a wedge in the pump housing to keep the impeller from moving and turn the armature. good luck, it is not an easy job.

I am buying a home

Replacing the motor is not very easy but you might be able to be a major part of the repair. I say repair because the motor may be ok. The capacitor might be all that is wrong.

My advise it that you make sure no voltage can be supplied to the motor. Next you need to use a combination or socket wrench to remove the four bolts that hold the pump together. The pump should be able to come apart exposing the internal parts. The cover that covers the wiring connections on the other end of the motor can be removed and the wire terminal screws can be loosened until the wires can be disconnected. At this point the motor assembly can be separated from everything else.

What you can do next is bring the motor assembly down to Leslies Pool Supplies and they can first determine if installing a capacitor on it will make it work. If the motor is bad they will have one or can get one and assemble it with any other parts including the seal, etc. in order to get it back in good order.

You can then bring it back and install it with information they provide.

If you are not comfortable with the above method then you could find a friend, neighbor or relative that could help you do the work at your location or you could get a professional to do the repair.

I hope this helps.

The motor works sometimes but it is very hot.

It's normal for these to run a little hot, a couple things may cause your motor to run hotter than normal.1. Bad bearings - a local motor shop can take it apart and replace them for around $50. Usually you can tell by a high pitched grinding or squealing noise2. Wrong impeller - if your impeller is not the correct size for your HP you will be moving too much/not enough water through your pump causing stress to your motor3. Blocked airway - you can use a can of air on your motors intake grille while it is running to blow out any clogs, if you have low airflow on the exhaust it probably means the airway is blocked

Pool pump not pumping

A few things to look at-
  • Did you fill the pump pot with water?
  • Check to make sure that the pot lid o-ring is in place.
  • Verify that your plumbing is sound and has no suction leak.
  • Check water level in pool.
  • Make sure the voltage is correct. Many pumps come pre-wired for 220v. If you have 110v supplying the motor it will run at half speed. There is a diagram on the side of the motor showing how to convert to 110V. Make sure that your supply is 110v before converting the motor. If you switch the motor to run on 110v and hook it up to 220v it will ruin the motor instantly.

I just installed a us pool pump motor eb841 1hp 3450rpm 208volt 56y and it is leaking water behind the square bell housing actually leaking bottom side of motor

There is a leaky water seal on the pump shaft housing between the pump and the motor. The drain hole prevents water from going into the motor and this seal needs to be replaced before the motor is damaged.

USQ1102 pump gets power, buzzes, trips breaker

The motor-start capacitor is bad. This is a very common problem. It can be easily and cheaply fixed by replacing the capacitor. Replacements are usually less than $10.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEIv5ClLqXg for a step=by=step guide.

When you have the capacitor in hand, check the model# which is printed on it. Alternatively, you can Google the motor brand & model to find the parts list which will identify the right one. Then Google the part number, to find a seller.

What happen with a wrong connection on a single phase 2hp sp motor

I'm not sure which motor you have - the heading shows a 1HP type - yet you talk about a 2HP type. Anyway, the label on the motor should have a wiring diagram. You must have a label on the motor to know how to wire. It may have two diagrams - one designated as "high voltage" and the other "low voltage". Check the label for voltage.. it likely says "120/240 volts". The 120 uses the low volts diagram and the 240 uses the high volt diagram. If the motor has terminals L1 and L2, these will most likely be the point of connection for power - regardless if it 120 or 240, unless the label states otherwise. Unless the neutral connection is specified on the label, it does not matter which L1 or L2 you connect it to.The other terminals will be required to be connected properly. Motors use these connections or jumpers to set options such as voltage, direction of rotation, speed(s), etc. An incorrect setting here can cause unexpected results as far as speed and rotation, or catastrophic results if you supply this motor with 240 volts but set the jumper for 120 volts. Here's a link to their catalog with telephone numbers for you to review.Good luck!
