This my sound simple, but is it muted through the speaker icon (a red line through it) or by inadvertently hitting a button on he laptop itself? The wifi on many laptops can also be turned off by hitting button on the keyboard, the wifi light or led itself.
a model number can be helpful. I also have ability to remote in to fix it if I is online.
sometimes it helps to just make a restart of the iPad to get things sorted....
Restart iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
normally to turn off the wifi, they some button with LED int the right corner. Press the button and see what happen. Otherwise, you can go to control panel use the system restore, and put some date that you know was working good.
or Restart the computer HOLD the key CTRL +f11 or f12 depend of your model ,etc and restore to the factory default, and fix it.
Here is a way that solved the problem for me. Downgrade the ipod touch to firmware 1.1.4. You have to put your ipod into DFU mode ('not recovery mode) and you have to have an itunes version that supports this old firmware. 7.5 oder 7.7 i think. to load your own firmware you simply hold the shift-button while you push the restore button.
After you have firmware 1.1.4 on your ipod touch, download the jailbreaker "Ziphone". This programm has the option to fix the "no Wifi" problem. Look in the advanced options. In my case, this was the only thing that solved the problem. I tried restoring it often but nothing worked. After Ziphone fixed your Problem, you can update the Touch to the latest firmware. Wifi was still working, at least for me
