Canon MP530 print head malfunction

The printer will print, but the ink cartridges need changing. When I open the printer to change the cartridge, the printer head does not move to the centre, so I cannot access the print cartridges.

I had the same problem with my printer. There is a switch that tells the printer that the cover is open or closed. Unplug the printer. Open up the printer cover and look on the inside right side edge. About half way back, you'll see a 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch hole where this switch resides. If you put your finger into it, you may be able to push on a lever and it will go down. It should spring back up when you pull your finger out. If you can feel the lever but it just sits at the bottom then there either this lever is broken or the spring fell off.

The problem with my printer was the spring had popped out. To access the switch, you'll need to remove the right side cover. Do this by removing the two screws in the back on the right side. Open the printer cover and find the third screw. It is located on the right hand side, near the front of the printer, on the top. Remove this screw and pop out the cover and see if you can find the spring that is attached to the lever. Make sure you do this in an area that if a small piece fell out you could find it.

Look at the switch and lever. If there is no spring attached to the lever then it is most likely the problem, otherwise the switch may be bad or the electronics inside the printer. There is a hook on the lever and one on the printer. Reconnect the spring and it should fix the problem. I found my spring had completely fallen out and fell on the floor when the cover was opened. It is possible that this spring if fallen out can fall back inside the printer so you may have to shake the printer to find this little spring. It is about 1/2 inch long. Hope this helps.

Do you mean the thing that holds 5 catriages? Sometimes, I keep it in the center by hand.Of course, you do not need always hold it. Once it stays, you can move your hands and replace catriages.

  2. Press buttons 1 + 2 + 3 and 4 (simultaneously using four fingers)
  3. Keep pressing this four buttons for 10 seconds
  4. Release the On/Off button (number 4) (Keeping pressing the others)

  1. Maybe step "c)" is not needed
  2. This procedure was used when I refilled the Black cartridge - try using the ColorCopy button instead of BlackCopy button (number 1) if you refill Color cartridge.
  3. Maybe there is no need for all the four buttons - you can try 1 + 4, 2 + 4 or 3 + 4. (or 1+2+4, 1+3+4, 2+3+4)

I need a new print head

Check if the service station proper covers the black nozzles when the printhead is parked. Sometimes the mechanics change its position and the printhead dries out.
Try to unclog the nozzles with very hot water. Sometimes it helps. The new printhead is very expensive and you may want to buy a new printer instead.
Remove the printhed, put it in a bowl with the nozzles down and fill with boiled water until the nozzles are covered. Wait 15 min and dry the electric contacts with a dry napkin. Good luck!

How to change the Print head

You take out all the cartridges, then raise the leaver on the left and side of the carrage that the ink cartridges sit in with one hand, and you will find that you can gently lift out the print head with the other hand. Quite easy really. Why do you need to get it out?

I forgot how to change ink cartridge on my printer CANON MP520

usually with the pixma range, if you lift the lid to expose the cartridges, the printer will automatically bring the print head along to the opening to allow you to exchange the cartridges, once it does, simply press down on the exposed cart, and remove it from the printer, the new one is then placed in the now vacant slot and gently lift up the edge until it clicks in to place. Close the lid and the printer will do the rest.

Canon MP530 U052 Error

The dreaded U052 error means that the 'chip' fitted to the Cartridge is not responding .. Canon (like all printer mfgs) makes all it's profit from selling Ink .. so they fit these chips to try to prevent you refilling or using a 'compatible' replacement cartridge

You have to move the chip from the Canon cartridge to the 'compatible' and (it seems) the chips are particularly sensitive to static / damage .. many people end up blowing the chips during the swap over .. or even when fitting the original genuine cartridges to a brand new unit for the first time ...

If the unit is brand new, take it back and demand a replacement ... if you have just swapped over the chip onto a compatible cartridge, you can try buying a genuine Canon cartridge (which will have a new chip) = hopefully that will do the trick

NB. I have seen some suggestions that canon's have a 'Service Mode' that allows you to disable the cartridge chip checking and allow you to print no matter what .. however I've never found any details ... perhaps some-one else has the details ??

How do I change ink cartridge?

You have a lid on your computer?

Just kidding....when you open the printer, make sure you have the power ON, that should slide the print cart(s) out and you should be able to figure it out pretty easily from there.
