How do i turn the wifi on my compaq nc8000 after installing the wireless card

I installed the wireless card in my hp compaq nc8000 but the wifi light doesn't come on

  • charlene jessamine Jun 09, 2012

I think the wireless switch is underneath. It moves back and forth but doesn't stay in one position. There are also 4 buttons on top of the keyboard. one is to turn it on, one has a lock on it and one has the wireless icon and another has something like a page with lines on it. Nothing happens when i push the wireless button. I will try the f keys thank you. I am so confused. I want to cry.

Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look onboth sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can togglethe wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN functionkey located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit willhave the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a towerwith the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will displayWireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.

SOURCE: Need wireless card for HP Compaq nx9020

If it does not have internal wireless then you need a PCMCIA wireless card, these can be picked up at most electronic stores such as BestBuy. Installation is very simple, just plug it in to the long rectangular port on the side of your laptop and install the drivers that come on the disc.

Need Network Controller 4 both Compaq Presario 2100 2500 Laptops

You have to install the WiFi card with an Installer before it is recognized by device manager... go to the link below, and download the WiFi driver and install as Administrator. You will need to know your exact model number to do so.. Do NOT just get a WiFi driver that will NOT work, you must get installer version.

How do I tell if a HP NC8000 business laptop has a wireless card installed?

Go to Device Manager (for example via Control Panel - System - Hardware) and look under Network Cards. If your computer has a wireless on/off switch (on the side of the laptop or above the keyboard), make sure it's in ON position.

Not sure if our laptop has an integrated wireless and if so how to turn it on...

Check Device Manager under Network Adapters to see if there are any wireless devices installed. If you see a device turning it on would depend on the exact model and brand of your laptop

Wireless will not light up /turn on

I don't mean to be simplistic, but did you flip the switch to turn it on? I don't see a laptop model in your question, but most laptops have a physical switch on the side, or front which physically disables/enables the wireless card.
