nc8000 (LT-2006')
what will be , will be.! money is not part of that ,fate is and entropy. sure how to fix it cheaper, that is the only question here.
but before that is Diagnosis, do you want me to guess, or would you like to test it.? we can guess all day, I can name 20 reasons it fails. (more if pressed)
why not leave that bad main battery out. and run on AC full time.
all laptops, made old love to fail both batteries.
the BIG-EN' and the CMOS RTC/NVRAM coin cell.
i guess the screen is dead, black , not
one text message ever
with the BIG battery OUT?>
1: big bat out.
2: line pack removed from laptop jack;.
3: press power for 10 to 30 seconds, (called the magic HP reset)
4:leave battery out, and put back battery pack , does it turn on now
do you at least get "hit F10 to enter setup" like it did every day for 11 long years? that message? (2006 old square screen)
I am Gobsmacked it even ran that old, yesterday, most are now in the land fill this old. it's Old man.
the problem is that the CCFL can fail. and the power pack.
read page 126 for new coin cell, if this cell goes dead BIOS goes NUTS,(means it can't function right)

lucky you, HP made yours easy there. wow. a simple cover.
not back to dead screens , ac only running ,no main big battery there. in a shop we test the power pack. but, i be you have no meters there.
so I wave my wand magic, AC pack ok
i then grab room mates flashlight from his spelunking kit and do this.

THIS pC HAS CCFL When they die, as all do sooner, most. do.
then that is it for them. (hard to fix. and expensive labor)
buy a pc 2010 or newer is the best plot. the year LED was
used to light the screen up.
see these tubes, U shaped, and hard to match?
getting this far and not doing huge $ damage $ is very hard.

the 23 causes are here.
some times things short, (like caps and chips)
and overloads the power regs on the mobo.
this takes hard work to find, remove things and using a magic tool called a $20 volt meter. to find what is shorted.
on one i found a useless model chip shorted, killing it ALL.
removed it and bam , fixed. yes, it can be that easy.
