My laptop will be fine,as long as it is plugged in, but if I am using it on the battery, within 20 minutes it will shut down without warning. Will not start again until it is plugged in. Battery indicates it is 74%
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Chosenone, Even though the battery meter shows it fully charged I doubt it?s correct. Over time rechargeable batteries loose their ability to store power. How long depends on the battery manufacturer and how well you treat it but you can consider yourself fortunate if your battery lasts three or four years. Beware of people who suggest you take apart your batter to bypass the safeties or replace old battery cells. Defective or improperly handled batteries can overheat and cause fires when you least expect them. Let us know if you have any more questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.

check the battery that powers your cmos. if your laptop is like my compaq armada, there's three screws at the top which free up the keyboard cover. there are three latches near the bottom of the keyboard. the keyboard swings up towards the top. there's two film type connectors in the middle of the motherboard. pull these out and the keyboard comes free. look in the upper left part of the laptop for a small disk type battery with a red and black on white nylon connector. replace this battery. it is a lithium-ion battery.

Your machine is overheating. Try cleaning the vents with a can of compressed air and making sure the heat sync is free of dust. If that doesn't work, you may need to replace the fans.

SOURCE: cannot turn-on my laptop
Hello Mahriah.
Try the following steps:
1) Remove the AC adapter and battery from the notebook.
2) Press the power button and hold it for a minute.
3) Reconnect the AC adapter, battery and try starting the computer.
The issue might be with the excessive power in the capacitors on the Mother Board. We are performing the Power Drain procedure which will drain all the excessive power from the capacitors and it may make the laptop to work properly.
