Very noisy during spin cycle

This started a couple of weeks ago. The washer is now very loud during the spin cycle. If you reach in and spin the drum by hand you can hear it too. The rest of the cycles are quiet, just very load during the fast spin cycle. Prior to this the spin cycle was very quiet.

We purchased our front load washing in June. Just last week it started make the very loud noise in the spin cycle. It almost sounds like a jet taking off. We only have three people in our household so the amount of laundry we do is minimal compared to some.

We have a 10 year old Frigidaire front loader which has just started doing the "Jackhammer thing" with moderate to full loads and only on high speed spin. I've pulled off the top & back and found nothing missing, loose or broken (visibly). Is is possible for the shock to get weak or wear out, like on a car?

You probably need new shocks for the washer as they break over time. They cost $37 each and you can replace them your self. If you don't fix these you may end up breaking the motor controller and while the part may be covered under the warranty the diagnostic and labor is not.

The spin cycle is very noisy. What could be the problem?

hi robyn.
A washer making a loud noise during spin cycle can also be caused by a faulty drive pulley. The pulley is what the belt (if applicable to yourwasher) rides on to spin your washers tub. The pulley can be made of plastic or metal. It could be simply worn out or just loose.27 Jul 2015

Maytag Top Load Washer MVWB850YW making loud noise in spin cycle.

If it's a roaring noise, the tub bearing is probably wearing out. Spin the tub a little with your hand, if you hear a little of the roar, that's it.

Noisy Spinning

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
