To adjust the contrast, Press Darkness. Each time you press the button, the LED labeled with the selected mode turns on. You can choose from the following darkness modes:
1>Lighten: works well with dark print.
2>Normal: works well with standard typed or printed documents.
3>Darken: works well with light print or faint pencil markings.

How do I get my canon mx420 to not fax too dark. receiver gets very dark faxes sometimes unreadable.

You can change the scanning density under the user settings to lighten the picture. Or you can also call in for a service company to come clean the machine. Sometimes dust can darken an image when it's scanned.

Canon faxphone L75 will not print from computer after lightening strike that fried the surge protector. It sends/receives faxes, and copies just fine. If you are charging $18 per answer like Just Ask.com,...

No I do not charge :-) , but you have problems with main pcb. You need to replace it, but its same amount of money if you buy new machine. Try with Canon L160 wich is also printer.

Phone line goes to fax

Lightening is definitely a factor. When you say it defaults to fax, do you mean that the fax machine picks up as soon as the phone rings? Most likely the fax software/machine has taken a hit. One way to check is to try it on another phone line, preferably at another location. So the cordless phones work all right? The static is probably something the phone company will have to fix. They have lightening arresters that will develop those conditions. Again, try a known good phone on the line. Preferably disconnect all the phones at the junction box where the phone line comes in and plug a known good phone into the jack. If you still get static, then the phone company should get involved. Otherwise you could have a problem with the house wiring.

Faxing copies of drivers' licneces result in poor quality

The Brother 2800 is pretty good machine within its limitations.I would suggest if possible to copy the drivers license on a regular copier and both lighten it up and enlarge it.I had good results using this procedure when I had to fax Licenses.Good Luck

Fax is received is very dark and almost unreadable

You can try using the menu to lighten the fax, but if all received faxes are dark, you may be experiencing a weak scan light. try making a copy instead of fax (which essentially is a fax printed to yourself) if also dark, its certainly your scanning imager that's failing. If that's the case I would recommend replacing the entire machine. Parts are expensive, and its a difficult to service part yourself. Also you may find that toner costs alone may pay for the replacement machine over this unit.

Recieving fax no printout, all other printing processes ok

When you say all other printing processes are ok, I am assuming you can make copies and print from the computer. If so...then are the blank faxes coming from several different fax machines or are they coming from one particular fax machine. If one particular fax machine, then the problem is probably on their end. I need to go backwards a second....when you receive a fax does the machine spit out a blank page or no paper is fed at all..it just receives the fax? Is the machine programmed to just receive faxes to memory to be printed out later? It doesn't make sense for it to print or copy but not to print a fax. If problem persist try a different fax modem.

The copy comes out very dark. The print is dark with a white background just around the print only. This is a Canon PC-6re copy machine

WOW I haven't seen one of those in years and years but a good dependable machine .the machine sounds like it is very dirty inside. the optics(lens and mirrors under the glass) and the corona wires are very dirty.
it really should be cleaned by a qualified copier technician, but if your mechanically inclined i may be able to walk you through it.
you may be able to get cleaner copies by pressing the "A" button and sliding or press ing the buttons to lighten the copy, that should temporarily fix it

Thank You,

Mikey

Ricoh FAX2900L printing too dark

check the scanner white roller witch is under the front cover where you feed in the paper to be scanned sometimes this gets dirty you can take it out by releasing the levers on each side..this also sets the density for copying.. if you have just put a newe cartridge in also check that it is seated properly as the contacts for the charge might not be connecting properly
