Hi there,
you may have a shorted thermistor.
can you tell me when this problem happens?
also, can you provide me with a complete model #?
thanks
hi there,
No problem,glad to help.
Thank you for the model # info.
The F28 error stands for Serial Communication Error. Basically, the machine lost communication between the MCU & CCU board. That is why you couldn't open the door, as there was no power to the machine.
I am sure that the Maytag tech will know what to do but here are my suggestions:
Unplug the machine.
Check wiring harness between the two boards for any obvious sings of burns or corrosion.
Check connections on both boards for same as the above.
Make sure the machine is properly grounded. This should have been done by whomever installed the machine.
Plug the machine in.
Run a diagnostic test (This you should most likely leave for the Maytag tech)
Check the MCU by running operations on the drive motor. (Also should be done by the Maytag tech)
Check the serial harness is not mounted upside down, the wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for answering my questions!
It's the Maytag Epic Z I believe the model is MHWZ600TW. Since I can't open the door to see any of this information, I'm not sure if this the correct model. When I went to Lowe's this was the model # number listed on identical machines they had there.
I just purchased it, haven't used it at all! I hooked it up and when I plugged it in, the door wouldn't open and if I waited long enough after turning it on, it started giving me that error code, F-28.
What ever it may be, someone is coming out to my house on Wednesday, Maytag is promising me it is a Warranty call and I don't have to worry about any charges, since I just purchased it.
Hi, thanks for answering my question!

I just purchased it, haven't used it at all! I got it home, hooked it up, plugged it in and the door wouldn't open. After I waited for a few minutes, after turning on the power, it gave me the error code F 28.
I have contacted Maytag, someone is scheduled to come out on Wednesday.
But if you know anything, your input is still very much appreciated.
Thank you again!!
