Printer will not use the magenta color

When i print a color picture there is no red color in the picture. I cleaned the print heads and nozzle check several times with no help. I also replaced the cartridge twice with no help. Canon i900D will not print magenta or photo magenta... tried all fixes including head cleaning, alignment, new drivers... nothing has solved the problem. Everything is green/blue and looks like a negative image.

I had the same problem. It is most likely that your print head nozzles are clogged. Your choices are to attempt to manually clean them, or order a new print head from Canon.

Attempt the manual cleaning at your own risk, this doesn't always work. When it does not work, it means your print head is damaged.

To maually clean the print head. Printer cover up (so you can get to the cartridges and print head). Turn the Printer Off. Remove all the cartridges (I put each cartridge in a separate zip lock bag). Then flip up the lever and remove the print head.
Now heat (don't boil) distilled water (Iused a good sized cook pan and a plastic measuring cup to pour the water). Find a container you can soak the print head in (I used a deep alluminum baking pan). Pour the hot (not boiling) distilled water over the print head molding where the cartridges seat down (hold the printhead over your diposable alluminum pan). Then dunk the molded print head part into the pan numerous times. When the water gets dark change it (be carefuill not to stain the sink). Then slowly pour the hot distilled over the print head (opposite side from where the cartidges seat in). Eventually no ink will be in the water. Set the print head on a dry paper towel, and let it dry for 24 hours or longer. Reinstall the print head, then the catridges. If it worked, your true colors will return. It make take up to 15-20 photos to get all the ink catridges flowing-be patient. You can also just wait 24 hours after re-installing the cartridges, and hopefully it will take less photos to see the correct color match.

Never keep printing when a cartridge is low or out.
Print a few prints every week. Not printing for weeks causes the printheead and the ink flow to clog!

Good luck. I just recovered my S820 and my i900D using the above cleaning method. Like everything else, your mileage may vary! It cost me $1.29 for distilled water and about an hours worth of time!

No red color appear when i print pictures

The Magenta print head nozzle maybe blocked.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Are the ink cartridges just a few copies, I have new copier and print is very faint

Hi,

You need to clean the print head and insert the cartridge and check, whether it is working at fine because a dirty printer header will not allow the right formulation of the basic cyan, magenta, and yellow to print and comes up with the yellow color and not red.
If you still face the problem after cleaning print head then you need to check for a clogged nozzle. Clean the nozzle and then try printing it will work fine now.
To clean the print head from the Utility section found in the printer driver, clean the print heads by performing a head cleaning followed by printing a nozzle check pattern. Furthermore, you can clean the print head by Using a cotton Q-Tip & Isopropyl Alcohol and gently rub the print head with alcohol.

Hope this helps.

Replaced T0603 magenta ink with brand new cartridge. Ink levels show its FULL. But when do nozzle print check, no magenta line will print. Trying to pring something with red clip art and can't get the...

Depending on when you last used your printer it may take a few head cleans before the ink prints. Print a nozzle check after each clean (uses minimal ink).

Also be aware each clean depletes your other carts as well.

C84 Wont print red

The printer colour cartridges are magenta, cyan and yellow. The printer prints "red" by mixing magenta and yellow ink. So, if you only get yellow when you print red, it means you aren't getting any magenta ink on the paper.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of magenta ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, are you sure you have a good magenta ink cartridge? To eliminate the possibility of a faulty cartridge, buy a new set of compatibles on E-Bay - they're very cheap. You can always re-use the old one later if it turns out it is OK.

If none of the above works, then you may have blocked magenta print head nozzles. You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid
comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any magenta ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the process until you get a full magenta nozzle check. If nothing, repeat the process once more.

If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

Printer will not use the magenta color

You did not say what the results of the check pattern showed. Were all the lines present or were there some missing?

If lines are missing, follow the instruction in my previous posts for under head cleaning.

If check pattern is good then you may have a problem with a vacuum pipe. You can download a rescue kit for CX machines to help with this problem from tradebit
