My HP 7310 printer prints fines with the old black (#96) cartridge that is almost empty. But I bought a new #96 and it didn't print, so I returned it and got another new #96 but it still won't print. The printer registers the cartridge as full of black ink but will not print anything in black. The old #96 black cartridge still work and prints fine, except it is low on ink. I tried a semi-full reset and that did nothing.
Please help.

how old is this one? And sometimes, those 'replacement' cartridges are anything but standard.

Either the print head for black is faulty, or the wiring to the black print head on carriage are broken. Try also cleaning the metal sensor to the black cartridge inside the ink carriage.

You people are stupid! After the first person detailed the problem, why do you reiterate by saying "me too, me too"? People come here looking for answers, not more of the same. Here's a suggestion. If you don't have a solution, don't say anything!!!

My printer did that a few months ago. I tried everything to get it printing black but in the end I had to take the ink cartridge back and return a new one. Some ink cartridges dry out when they are being shipped if not stored in proper conditions.
