Printer won't print with new black cartridge

Very strange error. I wonder if it is a driver issue? There were Microsoft Updates pushed out last night. Contact HP Support direct.

if it continues to show "empty cartridge" that means. the printer is not accepting the refilled cartridges..
You will have to try with a new genuine HP ink cartridge.

may be the ink cartridge is empty/not working. remove and return then restart the printer. if empty u can buy a new one. if u are a risk taker buy the black ink then a seridge and a niddle then refill it.

You people are stupid! After the first person detailed the problem, why do you reiterate by saying "me too, me too"? People come here looking for answers, not more of the same. Here's a suggestion. If you don't have a solution, don't say anything!!!

Has your cartridge been sitting a while in the box, maybe in a warm spot? Some times even new cartridges dry out a little. Was your old cartridge low or completely gone? Just as a test, if you put it back in your printer does the old cartridge work? Any printer error messages? Can you print a test page or an alignment page for your black cartridge? These might be too many questions but here are some HP support links with some How To information for getting more answers. Make sure the power is on, and the shield drops, so you can access the black cover.

First check that printer is not set to print B&W. Open an application to print a page, for example Word. Chose print command from the file menu on top bar , the print window will open.
In the print window press the 'properties' button, and check tha printer is set for color printing.t

Once you are sure printer settings are not in B&W, read the following.
Even if it shows color at 75, the printer color level may had not been reset since the cartridge had been replaced, in this case the cartridge may be empty.
If the cartridge is not empty it still can be faulty (eg. ink insid is dry).
In either case replace color cartridge with new original one.

If after you replace the cartridge it still does not print colors, then color head is faulty, at this point consider having the printer repaired by a technician.

I had removed and reinstalled the empty 3e cartridge. Sorry for the Confusion. I hadn't put a new 3e cartrige in until today. Them I ran " deep clean" twice. The printer works fine. I still don't understand why the printer wouldn't print color, when I was had set the printer to print in color when my 3e cartridge was empty and all colors including the 6 black showed full.

If the color cartridge doesn't print the color bars on the alignment page (either, redish pink, yellow or blue) then the alignment process will not finish. Same for the black. If the black cartridge is printing ok, then replace the color cartridge and try this again...
