Steps to change water filter - Whirlpool Refrigerators

Hello Gary Traver,

Page 13 of the USA model... (similar)
shows the steps to follow to RESET the water
after a FILTER CHANGE...

by... Pressing the "FRIG" & "POWER Cool" buttons
simultaneously for 3 seconds.

It is also possible the water line was kinked or the water turned of...

The instructions say t turn off the WATER before
starting the process (I would rather not move
the refrigerator... so that step always gets SKIPPIED)...

(sometimes high pressure makes it difficult to get the
filter BACK IN... and the solution is to SHUT the water
supply off... (ergo the need to check that).

Not seen in these instructions...

running the water through the new filter... (to clarify)..

((my water looks pretty yucky coming out of a new filter.

5 seconds... 5 second... (intervals... for 2 minutes)..

May be... the USA instructions I found here are

I understand that you are not getting water out of your dispenser. I would verify the dispenser is not locked check the panel to make sure there is not a lock light on your panel, if so hold the lock icon down for three to five seconds for it to release. Also check the water line to assure there are no kinks in it and water is able to move freely.

When was the last time your water filter was changed? If the filter has not been changed within six to nine months I would advise to change your filter to see if that would correct the issue. Additionally if the filter is not secure that could cause the water to stop dispensing check the filter to make sure that it is fit securely. Is there power to the icemaker? (voltage check)

Check for cube lodged in ejector arm

make sure the valves on the outside of the pool are closed so when you open up the valve to change the gasket the pool water will not continue to run out of the filter.
Once you are secure about water flowing out of the pool through the filter you can remove the bolts holding the filter body together and change the gasket.

Resetting your Refrigerator filter indicator light after changing your water filter

Some people are not aware that after you change your refrigerator water filter, there are two more steps that should be taken to complete the water filter change process.

Step 1:
Reset your water filter indicator light - Most new refrigerators come equiped with an indicator light that notifies you when it is time to change your water filter. This light does not automatically reset when you change your water filter. Here is a list of refrigerator manufacturers and how to reset the indicator light.

GE General Electric Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.

Step 2:
Flush a couple of gallons of water through your new filter. Since most refrigerator water filters are made of carbon, some carbon residue is present in the first gallon or two of water. This will leave a bitter taste and residue in your water. If you continue to have these problems after flushing a couple of gallons through the filter, it is possible that you have a defective water filter.

1. Turn the incoming water off.
2. Open closest cold water faucet, let it run until no water.
3. Turn off outlet valve after filter.
4. Hold down red pressure relief button, until no water.
5. Unscrew filter bowl with filter bowl wrench (if you have one).
If this does not work repeat steps 1-5 and turn the water off at well tank or water meter. Never tighten pre-filter with wrench, changethe o-ring every year and lubricate the o-ring every time filter is changed.

Removing and replacing a water filter - base grill location

Filters situated in the base grill (below the freezer compartment) of Whirlpool-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these two steps:

1. Grasp the filter's end and make a one-quarter turn to the left.
2. Pull the filter straight out.

To replace with a new filter, repeat these two steps in the opposite order, making sure to first remove the red cap from the filter. Proceed by pushing the filter straight into the slot, and then giving it a one quarter turn to the right.

Note: Replacing this type of filter is quick - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

When you buy the new filter, it usually comes with an instruction sheet.

Samsung Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Ice Type and Child Lock Buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool Refrigerators - Press and Release the Light Button 5 times Quickly.
Step 2:

Let the filter soak for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes discard the water in the tank and refill with fresh water.

Place a container under the spout.

Press the cup button in the middle.(Filter on, yes)

Press the cup button again.(press ok, initialisation)
The machine initialises the filter.
Press the cup button again.(done initialisation)

Then press MENU repeatly. When the "exit" message is displayed, press the cup button. In this way, the machine ends the start-up phase.
