Hi there. The hi limit may be tripping prematurely or the thermostat has its contacts stuck heating the oil temp high enough to trip the hi limit. Kindly check those two components. Regards.

If it has a thermocouple you should check it next.

Temp probe is probably bad. But there should be a hi limit switch to shut it off when it overheats. Either it is faulty or it doesn't have one. If it don't it is very dangerous to operate. Could cause a fire.

This unit should not require a regulator unless your gas pressure is more than 14" water column or 1/2 psi. In most applications this unit will not require an additional regulator as it uses a combination gas valve/regulator.

Any parts been changed? valve might be wearing out.

check pilot is clean , check thermopile is giving 600milli volts , check thermocouple .

there is indeed a thermostat operating switch for the device. the manual says it so. you can download the manual here

Try cleaning where gas passes through the opening where oxygen mixes. This happens on mine every six months or so. One other problem could be your thermostat.
