Based on your description, I'd say you are correct ( yes you can get the parts on-line and I believe most homeowners aka do-it-yourselfers can repair this ). Either one or both of the door link kits/springs broken. It's an easy enough repair, though the unit does need to be pulled out, slightly.
First, slide the entire unit out from the cabinet a couple or three inches and you`ll see the plastic roller assembly and rope ( except yours is likely broke...at least one by the sounds of your description ) attached to the side.
**You`ll need to insure your connections will allow you to pull the unit out however, otherwise they - water, power, drain hose - must be disconnected to prevent any damage.**
If you have any reservation to performing this repair on your own please call in a qualified appliance technician.
The parts ( # 1059756 @ repairclinic ) come in a kit as I alluded to and will look like what I attached below...
These are available at most brick & mortar appliance part locations or on-line vendors such as "repairclinic.com" "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple.
They range in price for around $20, or you can just purchase the rope/link seperately for about $4 part# 1159210 @ repairclinic.
I recommend replacing the entire kit and checking the spring itself, if it looks ok and not stretched or broke it is likely ok...they are seperate from the kit ( # 830967 door spring @ repairclinic as well )
Hope that helps move you forward. Thank you for visiting "fixya" today. Please take a moment and rate the solution provided here or a testimonial if you feel warranted.
Let me know if you require further assistance and good luck.
I understand by reading your post which indicates it is a KitchenAid KUDS02FRSS you appear to have a concern with no power to the control, manifesting in the control panel not lighting, correct ?
The one thing I'd suggest is the thermal fuse, typically the symptom you've described is associated with a bad thermal fuse. (part #661663). Here's a helpful link below to a video from "repairclinic.com" to assist in changing(or simply checking it as shown in the second link) the fuse kit...it generalizes on most Whirlpool built dishwasher's such as yours, but if slightly different it is essentially the same. http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic#p/search/0/jdlVbTXm8SY http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Thermal-Fuse/675813/679723 I'll watch for your reply and try and help going forward. Hopefully this will provide you with the solution you seek, but please keep me posted if not. ...If so, please take a moment to rate the assistance provided for you here today. Good luck and thank you for choosing FixYa. Regards, Macmarkus :)
I had the same problem- needed a new control panel. good luck. Didn't bother going through kitchen aid even though its still under warranty- figured they'd nail me on labor (it's in the 2- 5 yr warranty period) and I'd be waiting forever. had a private appliance tech take care of the problem.
Need to check timer the timer assembly. This controls when and how long power is sent to
other controls on your dishwasher. If these controls don't receive
power, they won't work.
The timer assembly contains a motor. Check this motor as well. It is
often cheaper just to replace the timer motor rather than the complete
assembly.
Any dishwasher detergent meant for automatic dishwasher should work with your dishwasher. You have to keep in mind the water quality in your area. Make sure you also use a rinse aid to support the cleaning. See page 5 in this manual.
Hello, The catch on the door latch assambly is weak and the latch needs to be replaced, this vidoe will show you how to replace the latch, the part# is 8183830 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at,searspartsdirect.com assuredaprts.com apdepot.com repairclinic.com appliancepartspros.com
Based on your brief description, I'd suggest you likely have a faulty thermal fuse in the control board, but it is not resettable unfortunately.
It's pretty easy to replace or to check, I've attached a link below to change the fuse, but you can also use the link to access the thermal fuse to check it.
With the aid of an ohm meter, remove one wire and measure across the two contacts and it should show continuity, otherwise it's open and therefore no good.
The part is available at most brick & mortar part places or on-line at vendors such as "repairclinic.com" or searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple. Part number 8193762...looks like this image and retails for about $15-$20USD based on the model you provided.
This is the youtube link to help with the repair "how to".
Based on your description, I think this should help and be just what you need to get to that piece of glass and remove the spray arm so you do not have to call a technician...and maybe more. You`ll need to follow these steps to access and clean it. (The key with the spray arm nut is to hold it while you spin the spray arm, not the nut...provided it is a KUDS02 series dishwasher as stated).
1 ) Remove the turbo wash tube if applicable to your model, it pulls off, i.e.
2 ) Spray arm removal. hold the center nut and spin the arm.
3 ) Now you can remove the upper spray arm supply tub or referred to sometimes as "rear feed cap". a ) lift to depress the rear tab, i.e.
b ) Then twist the feeder to the right ( clockwise ), i.e.
4 ) Now you can remove the center nut...
Then remove the four # 20 torx head screws holding the filter in place, and lift the filter out. This should allow you to remove the broken glass.
If my explanation is not clear enough, here`s a link which provides a pretty good video of how to do this, these guys aren`t pro`s but the "how to" video is pretty thorough nonetheless.

Dishwasher SprayArms not Spinning
First
perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar
into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest
setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher
most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the
problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the
problem.
There are many probable causes of failure .
To
clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not
hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water
temperature.
Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter.
