How do I remove the

Based on my dishwasher which is a similar model, unscrew the cap on the support arm. Then lift off the lower wash arm. (Turn counterclockwise to loosen.)

There are several models of the KUDS02FRSS and the parts diagrams and manuals are available from http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/search?query=KitchenAid+KUDS02FRSS .

I hope this helps.

(we recently had to take off the the lower wash arm to replace a seal; by the time the part arrived, we forget how tight the cap was on originally. Pay close attention to the wash arm ease of rotation when you disassemble it. We overtightened it and the arm refused to spin until we corrected the mistake.)

My 4 year old KitchenAid

Hi,

The problem sounds like there might not be enough water in the machine. This dishwasher looks to be a standard tank dishwasher that is not an energy saver model. The condition can be caused by a build up of sediments in the water valve. You will need to remove the lower panel and disconnect the water line from the valve. On the valve you will see four screws that hold the fitting to the valve. Remove these screws noting the position so you can reassemble the same way. When you have the bracket off the valve you have the sediment screen exposed, clean out any grit and reassemble the parts. Check for proper water fill. The water should be almost up to the bottom of the lower spray arm, a good amount of water. Make sure that you have the rinse aid dispenser full. Run the dishwasher through a cycle with vinegar to cut out some of the scale build up. This repair will not resolve any problems with dishes that are already etched with the build up. Those dishes can be treated with Lime away which might take some of it off. Last please check to make sure that your water temperature is at least 140* minimum.
Dishwasher Leaves Spots or Film

If your dishes or glassware appear filmy or spotted following a complete wash cycle, adjusting the amount or type of detergent you're using and adjusting your hot water heater's water temperature may solve the problem. But before you do either of these, put a rinse additive (such as Jet-Dry) in the rinse dispenser to improve the sheeting action of the water.

First you'll have to determine whether the film is removable or permanently etched. To do this, soak a glass in undiluted white vinegar for about 15 minutes. Or, you can wash the glass with warm water and concentrated dishwasher detergent or use a high-phosphate detergent (such as Glass Magic) according to label directions.

If film comes off, it is probably caused by hard water minerals, improper amounts of detergent, or unsuitable water temperature. For more, see "Dishwasher Doesn't Wash Well."

Permanent etching is often caused by a combination of soft water and excessive heat or detergent. If glassware is permanently etched, there isn't anything you can do to make it clear again. But you can avoid future etching by taking these steps:

From the Maytag company:

Removing Hard Water Filming On Your Dishes

The white, hard water film occurs when hardness minerals from the water are deposited on the glasses and tub. This is a film that normally occurs when the water is hard, not enough detergent is used, water temperature is low or no rinse aid is used.

To Identify

On glasses - To verify that the white film is hard water filming, soak the glass approximately 5 minutes in undiluted white vinegar. Rinse and dry. If the film is removed it is hard water filming. If the film is not removed, it is possibly another type of film such as etching. (See Preventing & Removing Cloudy Glassware Stains)

On inner tub - Saturate a cloth with white vinegar and wipe the tub. If the film is removed, it is hard water filming.

There are lots of possible causes of filming:

Hard Water And Not Enough Detergent

Chemical "builders" in dishwasher detergents tie up hard water minerals. If the water is excessively hard, or not enough detergent is used, hard water minerals can deposit on glassware and the dishwasher tub, creating a film. The minerals can also build up on the working components of the dishwasher, causing damage.

To prevent this from happening, try increasing the amount of detergent used according to the degree of water hardness. As a general rule, one teaspoon of detergent is needed per grain of water hardness with a minimum of three teaspoons. However, when using a concentrated dishwashing detergent, decrease the amount by half. Your local water utility or a water quality company such as Culligan or Kinetico can tell you the water hardness for your area.

Soft (0-3 grains) 3 Teaspoons (fill to the first line)
Medium (4-9 grains) 4-9 Teaspoons (fill to the second line or third line)
Hard (10-12 grains) 10-12 Teaspoons (fill to the third line or above)

For a normal or longer cycle place the recommended amount of detergent in each detergent cup. For shorter cycles place the recommended amount of detergent in the Main Wash cup only.

If the water is over 12 grains hard, you may need to use additional detergent (1 teaspoon for each grain over 12) at the beginning of the main wash portion of the cycle. (Open the door, add detergent to the bottom of the tub, close the door and the dishwasher will continue through the cycle.) If this does not give satisfactory results, the only solution may be to soften the water mechanically. When water is over 15 grains of hardness, it is difficult to achieve acceptable dishwashing results or prevent hard water deposits in any brand of dishwasher.

Results may improve by switching to a different type or brand of dishwasher detergent.

Low Water Temperature

Proper water temperature is needed to activate the dishwasher detergent, dissolve greasy food soils and warm the interior for good drying results.

The water heater should be set at 140 degrees F. if water heating options on your dishwasher are not available or not selected. If water heating options are used, the water heater may be set to deliver a minimum of 120 degrees F. water to the dishwasher.

To check the water temperature, place a food thermometer in a glass and set it in the sink below the faucet, allow hot water to run into the glass until the temperature stabilizes and take a reading. Adjust the water heater accordingly.

To ensure the dishwasher is filling with the hottest water possible, do the following:

* Before starting the dishwasher, let the faucet at the nearest sink run until the water is hot.
* Avoid running the dishwasher while hot water is being used for other activities like showers or laundry.

Not Using A Rinse Aid

A rinse aid such as Jet-Dry® or Cascade® Crystal CleanTM improves the sheeting action of the dishwasher. Use liquid rinse aid in the dispenser. If the dishwasher is not equipped with a dispenser, place a disc or basket in the back right corner of the lower rack.

To check the water temperature, first place a thermometer in a glass. Next, position this glass under the faucet in the sink nearest the dishwasher and run hot water into the glass. Once the temperature stabilizes, read the temperature from the thermometer.

To Remove Hard Water Filming

Glasses (Try one of the following):

* Wash dishes in the dishwasher using Glass Magic® according to package directions. If filming is extremely bad, it may require repeated washing.
* Soak items in undiluted vinegar.

Tub: (Try one of the following)

* Use a damp cloth and a mild scouring powder.
* Start empty dishwasher on "Rinse & Hold" or "Rinse" portion of the cycle. During the fill open the door and add 1/2 cup white vinegar to water. Allow the dishwasher to complete the cycle. Do not use detergent. Follow with a regular detergent wash.
* Use RoVer® Rust Remover or a dishwasher cleaning product such as Glisten according to manufacturer's directions.

I hope that these tips will help you.

Dishwasher will not cycle. pump

Does the motor turn and is not stuck? If it is free, then you may want to get a tester. An ohmmeter and a voltmeter. Test the door switch with an ohmmeter. A bad door switch can cause problems.
There is also a timer that can cause some problems as well. You can test the power coming out of it with the meter.
If those test out ok, check for a hi-temp thermostat. That can be tested with an ohmmeter. Should be between 11 and 30 ohms.
If those check out ok, then it's on to the control board.

Partselect . com has parts diagrams and more if you need pics and diagrams of the machine.

Whte residue left on glassware and dishes

use a dishwashing cleaning agent in the machine. or some thing the has a grease cutting agent.run this on an empty cycle.
there are times residue grease and oils can accumulate down in the sump area where the water sits and can cause film on the dishes.
this could also be some lime or scale build up for that you can use some C.L.R or any kind of lime and scale remover to clean your machine.
make sure tht that this is done on an empty dishwasher

Gritty film left on almost all dishes, rinse aid

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

Top section not cleaning

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues. Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded. To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure. For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump. Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
